About this place Drake's

Drake's

Drake's, on Damrak, is a cruising spot in the center of Amsterdam.

This place has carved out a niche within the LGBTQ+ community, getting a nod for its hospitality and design. It’s got a dedicated cruising area, plenty of room for those who like that sort of thing.

You’ll find around 30 private cabins, each with video screens so you can set your own mood. Besides the cabins, there's also a low-key bar where you can grab a drink and talk.

Amsterdam’s gay scene runs the gamut, from quiet cafés to throbbing clubs. Drake's fills a specific corner of that world for anyone looking for a cruising venue. It’s right in the middle of all the action.

This place is different from what you might expect but it's also what makes it unique. You skip the awkward part at the bar where most people pretend coming from something else, because there is no bar as such, you end up directly in the cruising area where I guess you could be whatever and do whatever. The guy at the desk is very kind and makes you feel comfortable, no prejudice. You basically pay 13 eur at the desk and go upstairs to the cruising area. The area itself is maybe a bit brighter than in other cruising spaces, but it also looks and designed differently. Some might like, some not much, but it's quite fun and I liked it overal! Lots of UV light, mirrors everywhere so be careful, some dynamic light. I'd call the design "American bubble-gum 90-s club something", so it's not a dark basement like most of the European cruising areas look like. There is a vending machine with refreshing drinks and a free locker, though setting a pin can be a bit tricky, I guess a more detailed instruction is needed. The cabins can only fit one person unfortunately, all have glory holes and TVs, so I suppose this is what they are designed for. There are no cabins for two as in saunas and bars, unfortunately. There is a small dark room (not very dark by the way) where, I guess, you can have more fun, but there is nothing to lean on, it's an empty room. There absolutely must be a sling in this room imho haha. There is no other place to fit two or more people, maybe you can try the hallways, but I wasn't lucky. Will definitely try once again because this place, with all pros and cons, is quite outstanding and leaves pleasant vibes!
