Lovely hotel, spacious clean rooms and I loved the bath. Staff very kind and helpful Breakfast very filling and tasty. Easy location to many things
We had a wonderful time at The Market Hotel. The location is absolutely perfect, right on the Grote Markt, making it incredibly easy to walk everywhere in Groningen. The staff deserves a special shoutout—everyone we encountered was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. Another huge highlight was the breakfast, which offered a fantastic selection of high-quality, delicious options to start the day. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 for the room only is due to a couple of minor maintenance details in our room. The mini-fridge wasn't securely fitted and moved around whenever we opened it, and the showerhead holder was quite loose, making it tricky to keep the showerhead in place. Overall, these were small issues in an otherwise excellent hotel. We would definitely stay here again!
Positives first: + Staff are trying to be friendly + Rooms are clean + Central location Now for the disadvantages: - The central location unfortunately also has to be considered a disadvantage, as huge trucks deliver goods to every shop on weekdays from 8 am to 12 pm. The trucks are extremely loud and drive recklessly and fast through the pedestrian zones. While the truck deliveries are somewhat quieter on weekends, the pedestrians on the street are not. We were woken up several times in the middle of the night on both weekends by loudly shouting drunks (and we were on one of the upper floors with the windows closed). - Other guests at the breakfast buffet: During the week, some people were occasionally conducting "business" calls (i.e., talking on the phone or using their laptops), so much so that I could hear the deal being heavily advertised even five tables away. I would prohibit loud phone calls and laptops in general during breakfast. Over the weekend, there weren't any business calls from individuals, but there were masses of guests staying for half a day who behaved like lunatics at the breakfast buffet. (Why, for example, do they have to occupy the entire bread section for two minutes, inspecting each loaf individually, while three other guests are waiting behind them for their turn?) I was almost bumped into several times at the breakfast buffet (over the weekend). I honestly thought I was going crazy. - The rooms are modern and clean, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone going there for their honeymoon or with someone they'd feel embarrassed about using the toilet or showering naked in front of: The shower area only has a partition wall, no door, and the toilet is hidden behind a glass wall, through which you can hear everything. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely convinced by this hotel.
Delicious breakfast buffet in the sunshine.
Only went to the restaurant: I actually always order the cappuccino and apple pie. The bar snacks were also tasty. Good atmosphere.
