Oslo/Fusion International Film Festival
About This Event
Oslo/Fusion is Norway's queer film festival, and the oldest one in the country. It started as Skeive Filmer and took its current name in 2015, the 25th anniversary. The festival billed its 2024 edition as the 34th, which puts its start around 1990. Despite the name change, the audience and most of the staff are queer, and the programme still centres on LGBTQ+ films. It also has a sex-positive strand of erotic shorts.
Screenings in recent years have been at Cinemateket, the national cinematheque in the city centre, along with Vega Scene and Salt on the waterfront. Parties are part of the programme. At one point Norwegian press reported that the festival was in financial trouble and had laid off its festival director. It has kept running every year since.
The 2026 edition ran from 18 to 23 September. It opened with "Maddie's Secret," closed with "Lady Champagne," and had a late-night screening of "Club Kid." The festival has been held in the second half of September for several years. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.

Practical Tips
The 36th edition centres on Cinemateket in downtown Oslo — buy tickets through Cinemateket or Ebillett rather than at the door.
Festival week runs alongside Oslo's autumn film season — pair a Fusion screening with a mainstream Cinemateket show for a full evening.
Nights get cold in late September — bring a proper coat for walks between Dronningens gate and the cinema.
