Gay Cruising in Gdańsk & the Tricity: The Honest 2026 Guide

Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change

Late afternoon on the Motława: the old wooden crane throws a long shadow over the water, gulls argue on the granary roofs, and the smell of fried Baltic cod drifts out of the kitchens along the embankment. Up the coast, the SKM train rattles past the shipyard cranes towards Sopot, where the pier runs out into a grey-green sea and the wind off the Baltic carries salt and pine. The Tricity (Trójmiasto: Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia) is beautiful, relaxed and one of Poland's more open places, but its cruising scene is close to non-existent: in 2026 we could not verify a single gay sauna, darkroom, cruise bar or sex club anywhere in the three cities.

Set expectations: men here meet on the apps, at weekend parties in Sopot and in a few friendly bars, and anyone looking for saunas and darkrooms takes the train to Warsaw, about three hours away. This page explains what's left, what has closed, and why GayOut doesn't send you into the dunes.

Legal in one line: sex between men has been legal in Poland since 1932, with an equal age of consent of 15, but same-sex couples have no legal recognition: in 2026 Parliament passed a law creating a registered "closest person" status, and President Karol Nawrocki vetoed it on 17 July 2026. Saunas and cruise bars are legal private venues; sex or nudity in a public place is not.

No sauna, no darkroom: what the Tricity has in 2026

We checked the international gay directories, Polish listings and GayOut's own pages. None lists an active gay sauna, darkroom, cruise bar or gay sex club in Gdańsk, Sopot or Gdynia in 2025 or 2026. GayOut's Gdańsk saunas page shows no venues and points travellers to Warsaw, and Travel Gay's Gdańsk page (updated September 2026) has no bar, sauna or cruising venue at all. A few sauna names that appear under Gdańsk in search results look like ordinary or floating saunas rather than gay venues, so don't go looking for them.

If that changes, we'll add it here. Until then, these are the indoor places where gay men in the Tricity actually meet.

Joy Club Sopot · ul. Armii Krajowej 111, Sopot

The Tricity's LGBTQ+ night out since its grand opening on 13 April 2024, a few months after HAH Sopot closed. It describes itself as "a space free from prejudice" (przestrzeń wolna od uprzedzeń), with drag queens, karaoke and themed parties on Friday and Saturday nights, listed from around 22:00 until 05:00. It's a club, not a cruise venue: there's no darkroom, and it also books mainstream concerts, so check @joyclubsopot on Instagram or its Facebook page for the week's programme. Sopot is about 20 minutes from Gdańsk Główny by SKM.

Pub Red Light · ul. Piwna, Main Town, Gdańsk

A dark-red, low-lit pub near St Mary's Basilica with neon, velvet sofas and cocktails, popular with a mixed crowd and singled out by one French travel guide for its "LGBT friendly character". It's a mainstream pub, busy at weekends, not a gay bar and not a cruising venue. Most listings give the address as Piwna 28/31 and hours from the afternoon until around 02:00, later on Fridays and Saturdays; check its Facebook page before you go. For more, see our Gdańsk gay bars guide.

Summer in the shipyard

In the warmer months, the former shipyard is where younger, alternative Gdańsk goes out. Ulica Elektryków (Elektryków 80), the old electricians' street, fills with open-air DJ parties, concerts, food stalls and bars under the cranes, and 100cznia nearby is a container village with street food, a city beach and events. None of them is a gay venue, and they're mainstream and seasonal, but the crowd is young and relaxed, and it's an easy place to meet people before the apps take over. It's a night out, not a cruising spot. Check their programmes before you go.

Closed or unclear:

    • HAH Sopot (Al. Mamuszki 21, by the beach), for years the Tricity's gay-friendly club, closed after a last Halloween party on 31 October 2023 because the site was being redeveloped.
    • HAH Gdańsk, Malarzy 86B in the shipyard, where the owners pointed HAH's regulars: some directories still give weekend hours, but we found no current events and could not confirm it is open in 2026. It was a club, never a cruising venue.

    The apps

With no sauna or darkroom, the apps are where cruising in the Tricity happens. Grindr is the main app in Poland, Romeo is popular with locals over 30, and the map-based Sniffies is also used. Many Polish profiles are discreet, with no face picture; respect that.

    • Meet in public first, in a café or bar, and tell a friend where you're going.
    • Be wary of anyone who pushes to change the meeting place at the last minute, asks for money, or wants to meet somewhere isolated. As in many countries, dating apps are sometimes used to set up robberies or blackmail.
    • Hosting: if you're staying in a hotel, check its guest policy before inviting someone back.

Beaches: the naturist section at Stogi

Stogi, Gdańsk's long sandy beach on the open Baltic east of the port, has an informal naturist section. It appears on the Federation of Polish Naturists' list of naturist beaches as "Stogi koło Gdańska", and it has long had a reputation as popular with gay men. Know what that means in Poland: there's no legal framework for designating naturist beaches, so no naturist beach in the country has official status. Nudity on a long-established naturist stretch is tolerated in practice, not guaranteed, and if someone complains, police or the municipal guard (Straż Miejska) can still act. Go in daylight, to sunbathe and swim, keep your things close, and be discreet. GayOut doesn't give directions to the dunes or the woods behind them, on purpose.

    Why there's no outdoor list

GayOut doesn't list parks, dunes, woods or public toilets in the Tricity. Under Article 140 of Poland's Code of Petty Offences (Kodeks wykroczeń), anyone who publicly commits an "indecent act" (nieobyczajny wybryk) can be punished with a fine of up to 1,500 złoty, a restriction of liberty, short arrest or a reprimand, and sex in a public place falls squarely under it, on a beach as much as in a park. Beaches, parks and woods are patrolled by police and the municipal guard, and robbery and homophobic harassment at night are real risks. Use the apps and private spaces instead.

The nearest saunas and darkrooms: Warsaw

For a proper cruising weekend, Poles from the north go to the capital. Fast PKP Intercity trains link Gdańsk Główny and Warsaw in about three hours, and Warsaw's cruising venues are clustered around Rondo ONZ in the centre:

    • Instytut, Prosta 2/14: a late-night gay bar with a large darkroom and themed nights, open until 06:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
    • Sauna The Fire, Twarda 44: the newest and biggest sauna, with a darkroom labyrinth, open until 08:00 on Friday and Saturday nights.
    • Heaven Sauna, Waliców 13, and Klub Sauna Galla, Ptasia 2: a smaller sauna listed as open around the clock at weekends, and the old-school one, running since the mid-1990s.

Hours and details are in our Warsaw cruising guide.

    Practical tips

    • Getting around: the SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) suburban train links Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia, but it isn't an all-night service: late in the evening the trains thin out and overnight there are only occasional departures, hours apart. Check the last train in the Jakdojade app before you head out, or use Bolt, Uber or FreeNow to get home. At night, bus stops are request stops (na żądanie): wave to stop the bus.
    • Tickets: buy local tickets in Jakdojade or at stations; app tickets don't need validating, paper ones do.
    • Money: Poland uses the złoty (PLN). Cards and BLIK are accepted almost everywhere.
    • At night: the Main Town and central Sopot are generally safe, but avoid quiet side streets after closing time and don't make a show of affection on the way home.
    • Health: Poland offers free, anonymous HIV testing at consultation and diagnostic points (Punkty Konsultacyjno-Diagnostyczne). If a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours: go to an infectious diseases hospital or an emergency department (SOR).
    • Community: Tolerado, the Tricity's LGBT+ association, organises the Equality March and is the best place to ask about community events.
    • Before or after: do as Gdańsk does and order a shot of Goldwasser, the herbal liqueur with flakes of real gold that the city has made since the 16th century, then eat fried cod (dorsz) or flounder (flądra) by the water.

    Pride: the Tri-City Equality March

The Trójmiejski Marsz Równości (Tri-City Equality March), organised by Tolerado since 2015, is held in Gdańsk in late May or early June. The 11th march took place on Saturday 6 June 2026 under the slogan "Równość wieje od morza" ("Equality blows in from the sea"), from Skwer Świętopełka through the city centre to the historic Imperial Shipyard on ul. Dokowa, with drag performances, music and an evening after-party in a Sopot club. Gdańsk's mayor, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, led the first part of the march. The 2027 date had not been confirmed when we checked; it's usually early June. It's the weekend when the Tricity's apps and bars are at their busiest.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a gay sauna in Gdańsk?

Not that we could verify in 2026. No gay sauna, darkroom or cruise bar appears in current listings for Gdańsk, Sopot or Gdynia, and a few sauna listings that turn up in search look like ordinary saunas, not gay venues. The nearest gay saunas we can confirm are in Warsaw, about three hours away by fast train.

Where do gay men meet in Gdańsk and Sopot?

Mostly on the apps (Grindr, plus Romeo for locals over 30) and at the weekend LGBTQ+ parties at Joy Club Sopot, ulica Armii Krajowej 111. In Gdańsk's Main Town, Pub Red Light on Piwna Street is a popular LGBT-friendly pub with a mixed crowd. Neither has a darkroom; they are places to meet, not to cruise.

Is Stogi a gay beach?

Stogi, Gdańsk's big Baltic beach, has an informal naturist section that Polish naturists have long listed, and it has a reputation as popular with gay men. Poland does not formally designate naturist beaches, so nudity is tolerated rather than guaranteed, and sex in the dunes or woods is illegal. Go to sunbathe, in daylight, and be discreet.

Is outdoor cruising legal in Gdańsk?

No. Sex or nudity in a public place can be punished in Poland as an 'indecent act' (nieobyczajny wybryk) under Article 140 of the Code of Petty Offences, with a fine of up to 1,500 złoty, a restriction of liberty or short arrest. GayOut lists no outdoor spots in the Tricity; use the apps, the bars and, if you can, Warsaw's saunas instead.

When is Pride in Gdańsk?

The Tri-City Equality March (Trójmiejski Marsz Równości) is held in Gdańsk in late May or early June. The 11th march was on Saturday 6 June 2026, finishing at the historic Imperial Shipyard with drag performances and an after-party in Sopot. The 2027 date had not been confirmed when we checked; watch Tolerado's announcements.
