Beach 19

Beach 19 is a large, clothing-optional gay beach about 30 kilometers south of Lisbon, inside a protected nature reserve.

It's one of Europe's bigger nude gay beaches, drawing people who want a more natural, unfussy vibe away from the city. You'll find plenty of sand to spread out on, whether you're there to read a book or check out the cruising scene.

The main draw here is the sheer space and the quiet, natural setting. The sand is good, and people are generally friendly. But it's remote, which is part of why it feels like a real escape. Don't expect any shops or bathrooms. You need to pack everything: water, snacks, lunch, whatever you'll want all day. And bring an umbrella or something for shade; there isn't much otherwise.

Getting there takes some planning. Uber or another rideshare is your best bet from Lisbon, since it's a good distance. If you don't mind the trek and come prepared, Beach 19 is a unique spot, combining natural beauty with a relaxed, clothing-optional gay community.
