O Boteco is a gay-friendly restaurant in Lisbon's Bairro Alto, where the LGBTQ+ nightlife really gets going.
It’s a relaxed place, part casual dining room, part cocktail bar, with a menu that mixes traditional Portuguese dishes with wood-fired pizzas and some fusion plates. You can pop in for a quick bite or settle in for a long evening. Either way, it’s a friendly spot for food and drinks in one of Lisbon’s most energetic areas.
Bairro Alto itself is a maze of narrow, winding streets, packed with bars, restaurants, and other places to hang out. It’s got a bohemian vibe and draws a crowd all day and night. Most places here feel warm and inclusive, and O Boteco is no exception.
You’ll find O Boteco at Rua do Gremio Lusitano 14. Its mix of good food and a proper cocktail list makes it a solid choice for almost any occasion—whether you’re kicking off a night, having a leisurely dinner, or just grabbing drinks with friends. The menu, blending Portuguese and contemporary flavors, shows where Lisbon's food scene is headed, moving beyond just the classics for those who want to try something different.

They are famous by the “Quindim” and I got to know because of it! Came to late and they was already closing, but Rafael was super kind and let us stay for the dessert! And we could prove that they probably have the best Quindim and the best Service! Obrigada Rafael!
The restaurant is indeed very beautiful. I was served by a Nepalese man who, by the way, spoke very good Portuguese and was super kind and polite. The food left something to be desired; I wouldn't say it was bad, but the rice and side dishes weren't very hot, the feijoada had the texture of frozen food, and the dessert was okay. I was very bothered that the restaurant didn't have a phone number; reservations are made through a machine.
We had such a wonderful meal, absolutely fabulous! The service was incredibly friendly.
Good service and excellent food.
The food was unfortunately served called and the meat was chewy and hard to eat. I'm suprised by the quality served and the rating that appears on the internet. Felt like a tourist trap.
The atmosphere and service was OK. But the food was really disappointing. Everything was cold, quality of meat really sub-par for a Brazilian restaurant. Over priced and underwhelmed.
Unfortunately, all we ordered was cold starting with the steaks and downhill from there. The atmosphere is great, but that's where it stops!
