Bucharest Pride
About This Event
Bucharest Pride is Romania's main Pride. In a country that still gives no legal recognition to same-sex couples, it is first of all a political event. It has been held since 2005 and is organised by ACCEPT, Romania's oldest LGBTQ+ organisation, which helped get homosexuality decriminalised in 2001.
It runs for about ten days in early June. There are film screenings, theatre, talks and sport across the city, a community hub that is open daily, and Pride Park, a two-day outdoor festival in Parcul Izvor next to the Palace of the Parliament. The march is on the closing Saturday. It starts at Piața Victoriei, goes down Calea Victoriei to Izvor, and ends with a concert.
Expect visible opposition. In 2026, MEP Diana Șoșoacă led a 'March for Normality' of a few hundred people a few hours before Pride. The day before, the Orthodox Patriarchate issued a statement of 'pastoral concern' about the parade. The gendarmerie reported possible fascist slogans at the counter-march and handed out 17 fines over the day.
The 21st edition, themed 'All of Us', ran from 3 to 13 June 2026. The march on 13 June started at 5pm and drew about 35,000 people according to the organisers, who called it a record. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
