Madrid Pride (WorldPride Madrid)

Madrid Pride, or MADO (Madrid Orgullo), is more than a parade. It's ten days of city-wide party, a huge celebration of LGBTQ+ identity that takes over the Spanish capital every summer. It grew from small, secret gatherings after the Franco dictatorship into one of the world's biggest Pride events.

When Madrid hosted WorldPride in 2017, it really cemented its place. That year brought in huge numbers, making Madrid Europe's top Pride spot. They proved they could handle a massive event. WorldPride returns to Madrid in 2026, promising an even bigger party, July 3–July 12.

You'll find the heart of it in Chueca. This neighborhood's long been Madrid's LGBTQ+ hub; its bars, clubs, and shops all hang rainbow flags. But the party spreads out. It hits major plazas and avenues all over the city.

The Main Parade is the big one. It usually marches down Paseo del Prado, where millions have watched it before. Floats, costumes, music — it's a carnival.

Beyond the parade, there are free open-air concerts. Stages pop up in Plaza de España, Plaza de Callao, and Puerta del Sol. You'll hear international and Spanish artists, everything from pop to electronic music to traditional Spanish sounds.

Cultural events happen too: art shows, film screenings, theater. They all look at LGBTQ+ themes. The official program also includes talks and debates on human rights and issues facing the global LGBTQ+ community.

When night falls, Madrid's nightlife kicks in. Clubs throw parties, both official and not, from small gatherings to huge dance events that last until morning.

If you're coming for WorldPride Madrid 2026, plan ahead. Chueca's the center, but try staying in nearby Malasaña, Justicia, or parts of Gran Vía. You'll get good metro links and more hotel options.

WorldPride is huge. Hotels will book up months, maybe a year, in advance. Prices will climb. Lock in your room as soon as you can, definitely before the end of 2025.

The vibe is celebratory, inclusive, and diverse. Expect an international crowd of all ages. Streets will be packed with people, color, and a real sense of community. Madrid embraces it. Locals join in, making it a warm, open Madrileño experience.

Public transport, especially the metro, is the best way to get around. Some areas will be closed to cars or have big traffic changes.
