Ukraine has legal protections for same-sex couples and is generally welcoming to LGBTQ+ travelers. Major cities and tourist destinations are the most established; see each city page for the current scene and venue reviews.
Same-sex partnerships are recognised in Ukraine, though full marriage may still be pending. The Legal Status panel above has the current position. Decriminalized in 1991 with an equal age of consent (16). Employment anti-discrimination covering sexual orientation was introduced in 2015, but there is no broader anti-discrimination law. No marriage (the Constitution, Art. 51, defines marriage as a union of a man and a woman) or joint adoption; a civil-partnership bill (No. 9103) is pending but not enacted as of 2026. Legal gender change has been permitted since 2016, and in 2025 courts began recognizing de facto same-sex families.
