About this place Guildford Manor Hotel & Spa

Guildford Manor Hotel & Spa is a mainstream country-house hotel at Newlands Corner, between Guildford and Albury on the edge of the Surrey Hills. It has a spa and restaurant and is mostly used for weekend breaks, weddings and events. It is gay-friendly in the ordinary sense, not a gay hotel. Google reviews average 3.8 from over 1,600, so expectations should be moderate. You will need a car or taxi: it is about 5 km from Guildford town centre and station, and the Newlands Corner viewpoint and walking trails are right next door.

Katie at reception was ever so helpful. Service with a smile and spacious rooms. Excellent Spa facilities. Mohammed at the restaurant was very jolly and cheerful. Beautiful surroundings, with a superb Italian restaurant next door "Carlos Trattoria"

I’m extremely disappointed with how Guildford Manor Hotel & Spa handled my £50 room deposit. I was charged a £50 deposit over a month ago and was told at check-out that it would be returned that same afternoon. It wasn’t. After a week, I called the hotel but couldn’t get through. I tried again and was eventually told that the refund should come through that week. It never did. I then emailed the hotel twice and received no response. Over a month after my stay, I called again to chase the money. The lady at reception simply said that I “probably had damages in my room.” I can guarantee that I did not cause any damage whatsoever. I stayed in the room, slept there, and left it in the condition I found it. I asked for clarification, but instead of providing any evidence of damage or explaining why my deposit had been withheld, I was told that I would receive a call back or an email. Neither happened. At this point, the hotel has kept my £50 without providing an explanation, despite multiple phone calls and two unanswered emails. The money itself isn’t the main issue - it’s the lack of communication, the failure to return the deposit as promised, and the completely unsubstantiated suggestion that I caused damage. If the hotel is going to withhold a deposit, I would expect them to be able to tell me exactly what the alleged damage was and provide evidence of it. Instead, it seems they just didn't pay it and left it. Very poor customer service and extremely frustrating to have to repeatedly chase this.

Lovely hotel, amazing view from the executive room. Relaxing spa and lots to visit in the area. Staff were welcoming and always helpful.

Lovely grounds and reception area is very nice. Spa facilities are swimming pool, jacuzzi, out door hot tub, sauna and steam room but not very steamy. Rooms are clean but could do with updating. No bath tub as was advertised only a shower. Lots of complaints around treatments, no robes and rooms not being cleaned. Food was nice. Server in restaurant was doing everything. There was a wedding party on the evening we stayed so was quite noisy. Okay for a one off visit.
