What reviewers say

Visitors consistently praise Hazlitt's for its exceptional charm, historic character, and prime Soho location, with many highlighting the warm and attentive staff. However, some guests note that the rooms, while fitting the historic atmosphere, can be quirky and may present minor issues like difficult showers or noise transfer between rooms.

About this place Hazlitt's

Hazlitt's occupies three Georgian townhouses on Frith Street — a narrow Soho street one block from Old Compton Street — and operates as London's most distinctive small hotel. The building dates from 1718; William Hazlitt, the Romantic essayist, died in one of its rooms in 1830, and the hotel is named for him. Each of the 30 rooms is individually designed with antique furniture, oil paintings and Victorian bath fittings — there is no gym, no spa, no conference room, no corporate infrastructure of any kind. The hotel is operated on the principle that guests come to Soho to use Soho, not to sit in a hotel lobby. LGBTQ+ guests have been welcomed here for decades; the hotel's Soho location, independent ownership and literary-bohemian character make it naturally aligned with the community. Not cheap — Soho prices apply — but there is nothing else in London quite like waking up in a 1718 townhouse 90 seconds from Old Compton Street.

We could not be happier with our decision to stay here for a few nights while visiting London. We happened to book our trip during London’s heat wave, so after long days of exploring the city, it was such a relief to return to the hotel’s incredible air conditioning! 🤣 The staff were so welcoming and accommodating from the moment we arrived. They kindly allowed us to leave our luggage on our first day while we waited for our room to be ready, giving us the opportunity to start exploring right away. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Having it delivered directly to our room was such a treat, and the coffee was amazing. We were especially surprised that the pastries arrived warm—they were delicious! It was truly one of the highlights of our stay. Thank you for the comfortable beds, the wonderful hospitality, and our lovely stay at your beautiful hotel. The location was perfect as well. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting London.

An amazing hotel that gave cozy 18th century. Truly one of a kind.if you want a bit of history in the center of SOHO this is your spot. The staff was very kind and always going out of there way to help, great service. The hotel is very fancy so keep that in mind when staying, but truly I would stay there again in a heart beat.

Booked through Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The building is from 1718, which is a fun experience for anyone who appreciates history. The bed and room were beautiful and comfortable. Location is good, near a LOT you can walk to. As such, it is one street over from a rowdy area.
