About this place Pret A Manger Elephant & Castle

This Pret A Manger location has become a beloved gathering spot for London's LGBTQ+ community, despite being a straightforward coffee and sandwich shop rather than a full-service restaurant. The venue's popularity with gay customers is largely due to its convenient location beneath One The Elephant, a tall residential tower housing many of London's gay residents, as well as its proximity to The Castle and Gymbox—two gyms that are well-frequented by the local LGBTQ+ scene. If you're looking to catch the most vibrant atmosphere and meet locals, weekend mornings and lunchtime are your best bet. Visitors can expect a casual, welcoming environment typical of the Pret A Manger chain, with quality coffee and fresh sandwiches available. The real draw here is the social aspect and the chance to experience where local gay Londoners naturally congregate in their neighbourhood. It's an excellent spot if you want an authentic taste of LGBTQ+ life in Elephant & Castle rather than a dedicated gay venue. The laid-back vibe makes it perfect for a quick coffee, a chat, or simply soaking in the community atmosphere. The Elephant & Castle area has transformed significantly in recent years and has become an increasingly vibrant neighbourhood with plenty of residential development and local businesses. This Pret location serves as an unofficial hub within that landscape, making it worth adding to your itinerary if you're exploring south London or staying in the area.

Sadly Helina let your store down. She mis heard my order and then when I politely explained that I am allergic to milk and would therefore not order just a latte she got angry and aggressive and claimed it couldn’t be her fault. I calmly explained it was ok and I didn’t mind but she kept angrily shaking her head and complaining. When I asked her not to be rude and aggressive she repeated the same claims. Very disappointing, she needs serious customer service training promptly

I want to highlight the excellent attitude and friendliness of the staff at Pret A Manger. They always do their best to provide good service, even under a lot of pressure. However, it’s clear that there is not enough staff, especially on weekends when it gets very busy. Despite this, the team manages everything as best as they can, which is admirable, but it shouldn’t fall on so few people. Safety is also a concern. Sometimes there is security on site, but other times—even on busy days—there is no guard present. There have been incidents of theft, and it is very difficult for just two employees to manage everything at once. Additionally, when new staff members arrive, they often don’t seem to be properly supported or integrated into the team, which increases the pressure on those already working hard. The team is excellent, but they need more support, better organization, and safer working conditions. I hope the company takes this seriously, especially on weekends, to ensure both staff safety and a good customer experience.

Usually pretty good. I come here all the time. Until today, I ordered a toastie and took it for takeaway. Opened the wrapping and took a bite from it and found out it was burnt. £5 wasted- ☹️why give it to me if you burnt it?
