Manchester Gay Pride 2026
About This Event
Manchester Pride nearly didn't happen in 2026. The charity that ran it for years collapsed into voluntary liquidation in October 2025, owing around £1.3 million to performers and suppliers after a costly format change and a failed EuroPride bid. For a few months it looked like Britain's second-biggest Pride was finished.
What replaced it is smaller, community-run, and pointedly back where it started. Manchester Village Pride — a not-for-profit set up by Gay Village businesses and LGBTQ+ organisers, funded by loans from the bars themselves — took over in January 2026 and moved the whole festival back onto Canal Street and into the Gay Village, away from the paid-arena model that helped sink the old charity. Its board is unpaid, any surplus goes to local LGBTQ+ groups, and it became the first UK Pride to sign an Equity agreement guaranteeing performers fair pay — a direct answer to the 2025 non-payment scandal. The organisers call 2026 a year of rebuilding.
The festival runs across the August bank-holiday weekend, Friday 28 to Monday 31 August. The parade returns on Saturday 29 August, winding through the city and finishing in the Village. The Village Party spreads across Canal Street and the surrounding blocks all weekend on ticketed wristbands (weekend from £25, day passes £20), sold through Skiddle. The Monday is free — a Community and Family Day — and the festival closes as it always has, with the Candlelit Vigil in Sackville Gardens, held with George House Trust to remember those lost to HIV.
Practical notes: Canal Street is a ten-minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly, so trains are easy. It's a bank-holiday weekend, so book a bed early, and bring a coat whatever the forecast — this is Manchester in August. Weekend wristbands step up in price as they sell, so buy early if you're set on going.
