About this place Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel by Belvilla

Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel is a mainstream mid-range hotel on Blonk Street at the north-east edge of Sheffield city centre, near Castlegate and the Wicker Arches. It has a restaurant and bar and free Wi-Fi. It is listed as gay-friendly, not as a gay hotel. Google reviews average 3.7 from over 1,400 guests, so expect straightforward chain-style rooms. The city centre and the Crucible and Lyceum theatres are about a 10 to 15 minute walk away, and Sheffield station is a short taxi ride. The listed website points to a Best Western site, so check the current brand when booking.

i would rate higher as i can tell this is a really good hotel to stay in, but ive been here during this heatwave and being put on the 9th floor, its absolutely boiling and i wouldnt suggest coming to this one if theres a heatwave unless its an emergency. they did provide fans, but it just blows steaming hot air around the room. other than that it seems pretty good, just ashame i came just in the middle of this heatwave.

Not recommended. More than one corridor had extremely strong weed smells. Other guests were coming and going until 1am every night, with loud door banging, arguing and party noises. The bed was OK, but the curtains let in so much light it was hard to sleep past dawn. The bathroom was severely outdated; leaking shower head, extractor fan not working - as is sadly usual these days. Breakfast had rubber eggs and can only be described as left on the hotplate since last week. Approximately 100 rooms, with around 15 parking spaces, so you can imagine what a nightmare that was - especially after paying for parking in advance for the week. Management should be ashamed.

Service was very poor. You have to book a clean and top-up of coffee, toilet paper etc before 9pm the day before. This is supposed to be for sustainability, which is fair, but twice in my stay this never happened even after two requests were made on time. So I had to phone the hotel twice (from my cell phone as no communication means in the room) to ask for toilet paper etc. The one time the clean did happen the room was not properly cleaned. Also, the towel heating rail had a live, exposed wire where the insulation had come off. Decor is dated and paint is chipped and old. Beds are not very comfortable. Staff are not friendly and not helpful. I only stayed there because everything else was booked, but I definitely won’t stay there again. I didn’t even bother to have breakfast there. In the mornings I just wanted to leave the building…the place steals your appetite. Entrance hall was so sad looking (frat house feel) that I didn’t even want to see what the bar or restaurant looked like. Sheffield is such a lovely city, so don’t spoil your stay by booking this low grade hotel.

Very basic. We found pubes in the bath and it hadn't been cleaned properly

We stayed here recently and it was AWFUL. Blood on the bedding, mould in the shower, flys in the soap literally disgusting. The bed is advertised as a large queen however is actually 2 singles pushed together meaning there’s a gap down the middle to fall down in the night. I’ve emailed regarding all this but my email seems to have been ignored.
