Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel by Belvilla

The hotel has gone from Best Western to Belvilla but the standards have not slipped. The staff I’ve seen here are very good, they’re pleasant, conversational, and are a credit to the services. Rooms are clean with fresh towels and linen all the time. The cleaning staff are good at daily clean ups and checks. The rooms and bathrooms are looking a little tired but it’s not a huge downside. They function absolutely fine. And for the price per night I keep coming back for the reason that it’s just a good hotel with all I need.

The carpet of the Best Western Plus in Sheffield had 그 distinctive "corporate swirl" pattern that usually promised nothing more exciting than a decent night’s sleep and a lukewarm kettle. I’d just tossed my blazer onto the bed when I noticed it: a jagged, fist-sized hole in the back of the mahogany-veneer wardrobe. I didn’t find a spare pillow. I found the end of the world. ## The Descent into Derinkuyu Pushing past the hanging rails, the wardrobe didn't just end; it opened into a vertical shaft of cool, ancient air. This wasn't South Yorkshire anymore. I scrambled down a series of carved stone steps, descending miles into the earth until the air grew thick with the scent of beeswax and ozone. I had emerged into the **Lost City of Derinkuyu**. This wasn't the tourist trap in Turkey; this was the *real* one—a subterranean metropolis of basalt arches and glowing moss. ### The Temporal Cult Deep in the "Cathedral Level," I stumbled upon them: **The Chronos Weavers**. They weren't just monks; they were temporal engineers. In the center of a hollowed-out cavern, they had constructed a shimmering gate of liquid light. * **The Plan:** To jump back to 1914 and ensure the Great War never ended, feeding on the resulting temporal chaos. * **The Leader:** A woman known only as The Matriarch, draped in robes that seemed to flicker between velvet and digital static. ## The Final Stand I was spotted. The Matriarch raised a hand, her fingers sparking with paradox energy, ready to blink me out of existence. I panicked, reaching into my bag for anything heavy. My hand closed around two things I’d swiped from the hotel room: a heavy **decorative ceramic skull** (Sheffield is edgy like that) and a **universal power point adapter**. The physics of the underworld are weird. As she lunged, I jammed the power point adapter into a glowing crystalline conduit near the gate. The surge of raw temporal energy didn't have a grounded outlet, so I used the ceramic skull as a conductor. I hurled the skull—now glowing with a blinding, violet arc of electricity—straight at her. > The impact didn't just knock her back; it grounded her timeline. The Matriarch shattered into a thousand ticking clock springs, and the portal collapsed into a pile of harmless sand. > ## The Aftermath I climbed back through the wardrobe, dusting basalt soot off my jeans. I’d saved humanity, prevented a total temporal collapse, and defeated a cult of time-traveling extremists. I walked down to the lobby, heart still racing, and stood at the front desk. "Morning," I said, leaning on the counter. "Can I get my invoice for room 402?" The receptionist tapped a key, frowned, and shook her head. "I'm so sorry, love. The system is just spinning. I can't get the printer to connect to the server." Typical. I can stop a cult from rewriting the history of the universe with a travel plug and a piece of kitsch decor, but getting a PDF receipt out of a Best Western? **Impossible.** **Tic tock.** Time waits for no man, and apparently, neither does the morning checkout queue.

Unfortunately, the experience fell significantly below expectations, particularly given my previous positive experiences with Best Western. The overall condition and cleanliness of the hotel were disappointing. The key issues encountered were as follows: The hotel overall appeared extremely tired, with worn and poorly maintained paintwork throughout. The “twin room” booked consisted of two single beds pushed together, which could not be separated due to the room layout. This appeared to be the case across multiple rooms. A persistent musky smell was noticeable throughout the hotel. The restaurant/bar area had a very unpleasant odour, comparable to that of a toilet. One of the bed sheets was visibly stained. The seating in the room was dirty. The TV remote control was damaged, missing its back cover and held together with sellotape. The TV would turn on randomly without any input. Several light switches (approximately five) did not function at all, including the main ceiling and wall lights. The bedside wall lights flickered excessively and uncomfortably when switched on. The room door lock malfunctioned, requiring multiple attempts to open despite showing a green light, with the handle needing to be repeatedly forced. Overall, the hotel felt unclean and poorly maintained, which made the stay uncomfortable and far below what I would expect for the price paid.

Great location for everything you need to do in Sheffield nice big bed, clean, staff were so welcoming pizza and a pint only £15 definitely a revisit for the next concert

Staff were super nice and helpful and breakfast was great. The room was comfortable and clean. The location is near the centre but the area around felt a bit dodgy. All in all good value for money.
