Hôtel Unique Dortmund Hauptbahnhof

A truly lovely hotel with a special ambiance! It's about a 10-minute walk from the main train station, and the Westentor subway station is right around the corner. We had a superior double room, which was very clean and comfortable. The bed was especially comfortable for us! It had a nice firm mattress...great for the back 😊 Although it's located on a main road, you can't hear a thing with the windows closed. All the hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating! We also really enjoyed the breakfast. We had everything we needed. I'd especially like to mention that there was an extra serving platter with poultry and even halal sausages to go with the scrambled eggs. We would love to come back and thank you for the pleasant stay 👍🏻

The hotel looks nice and is clean. The rooms are adequate and reasonably modern and tidy. However, the staff is abysmal. In fact, they're practically nonexistent. Room service, which one would expect at this price, was nonexistent. Even asking for it didn't get us any attention. At the very least, we really needed fresh towels. Breakfast was the same story: a very nice room, but the food was abysmal. Like a bad youth hostel breakfast. The cheapest Gouda and hard rolls, a few cereals, that's it. There's no cutlery at the table; you have to get it yourself at the entrance. The worst part was our departure. We had left our luggage at reception so we could see the city. When we returned to collect it and catch our train, there was no one there. Several guests were waiting at reception, but no one came. Even after ringing the bell and even calling, no one could be found, nor in the restaurant or anywhere else in the hotel. After waiting for 15 minutes, we were starting to run out of time for our train, so I went behind the reception desk to the office and retrieved our suitcases. No one was there. Conclusion: Nice "hardware," but absolutely no service or proper hotel management. The fact that no one was at reception for so long, even though our luggage was there, is unacceptable.

Great location. City high street across the street, metro and train station walking distance. The room is spacious and the bathroom is very clean and modern. The beds are reasonably comfortable but there are no tea cups or kettle in the room. Tea/Coffee can be made downstairs by the bar. Room service isn't done unless you request it at reception. There is no mini fridge in the room, however you can give items to be put in the fridge downstairs in reception. There is no A/C so does get hot during summer months. All rooms have a safe in the room and reception is open 24 hours so there is someone downstairs if you do need anything.

The price was really good. No breakfast included. That was fine. It was clean. But my room was quite small. The wardrobe door wouldn't open fully because it hit the bed. The soap seemed very watered down and didn't have the strong, pleasant scent I usually find in hotels. The shower gel was similar. For this price, we had a view of a backyard. No air conditioning, but a €2 mini fan from China. The underground parking garage was a construction site. Does this hotel really have 4 stars? What I noticed during our short stay was that it seemed to be mostly occupied by foreign guests. But we felt comfortable.
