The honest summary: Athens has about a dozen real gay and queer bars and clubs, and most of them are close enough to Kerameikos metro that you can try three in one night. Nothing much happens before midnight. Few of these places have working websites, so opening hours below come from named guides, and they sometimes disagree. Check social media before you make a special trip.

Legal in one line: Sex between men has been legal in Greece since 1951, and same-sex marriage since February 2024. These are open, legal businesses.

The Gazi clubs

Sodade2 · Triptolemou 10

Running since 2000, and described by Nomadic Boys in July 2026 as the most popular gay club in Athens. The Globetrotter Guys describe a front room with a DJ and a back area for house music. It's listed Thursday to Monday from midnight, until about 04:00 and later at weekends. It's small, and smoking is allowed inside.

S-Cape · Iakchou 32

Its site calls it "the legendary gay club in Athens" and gives Wednesday to Sunday, doors at midnight. Nomadic Boys mentions performance cages and Wednesday drag. Reviewers complain about a crowded dance floor and paper cups at €10 a drink.

Shamone · Konstantinoupoleos 46

Drag and dancing, with a mixed crowd; Nomadic Boys calls it straight-friendly and lists Friday and Saturday, 22:00 to 05:00. It takes reservations on 6947 204020. Some older guides give a different street, so go by the address on the club's own site, which is the one above.

Noiz · Konstantinoupoleos 78

Lesbian-led with a mixed queer crowd, listed by The Gay Passport Thursday to Sunday, midnight to 06:00. Reviewers advise booking at weekends.

BEqueer · Keleou 10

Drag, voguing and DJs on Friday and Saturday from midnight to 06:00. Reviewers report staff asking at the door if they're queer and turning some straight guests away.

Moe Club · Keleou 1-5

The after-hours place. Nomadic Boys says it peaks after 04:00, and reviewers mention Greek music and drag queens. Listings disagree on which nights it opens, so count on Friday to Sunday.

Bars outside the club strip

Big Bar · Falaisias 12, Votanikos

The bear bar, going since 2004. The Globetrotter Guys list Tuesday to Sunday, 20:00 to 02:00, and to 03:00 on Saturdays. Nomadic Boys mentions drag and karaoke. It's a few minutes west of the clubs and opens hours earlier.

Samis · Filis 34

The Globetrotter Guys call it one of the first gay bars in Greece. Despite what some guides imply, it isn't in Gazi: Filis 34 is north of Metaxourgeio, so allow 20 minutes on foot. Nomadic Boys lists Tuesday to Sunday, with late finishes at weekends and a summer beer garden.

Koukles · Zan Moreas 32, Koukaki

The city's dedicated drag club, with two-hour shows on Friday and Saturday nights from 23:00. The room is small and bottle prices are steep, so phone 694 755 7443 first. Its old website no longer loads.

Cantina Social · Leokoriou 8, Psyrri

A relaxed queer bar with alternative music and drag brunches, listed by This is Athens and Trippin. It's a good pick if you'd rather talk than dance.

• Del Sol, Voutadon 44, Gazi: gay café-bar from 09:00 until 02:00 or later, with a terrace.
• Rooster, Plateia Agias Irinis 4: gay café near Monastiraki, 09:00 to 01:00. Its own site doesn't describe it as gay, but guides do.
• Beaver Cooperativa, Megalou Vasileiou 46A: women-led café-bar with quiz and karaoke nights, open from the afternoon.
• Ble Papagalos, Leonidou 31: café-bar linked with the Athens Pride crowd, according to Nomadic Boys.
• Myrovolos, Giatrakou 12, Avdi Square: gay-friendly bar-restaurant with vegan options.
• Klostirion, Millerou 17: art café-bar with a mixed crowd.

Gone but still Googled

Lamda: Nomadic Boys says it closed for good in April 2024. David, Blue Train and Kazarma don't appear in any 2025 or 2026 Athens guide we could read, though we found no closure notice. Mybar, Fou and BearCode are listed as closed only in directories. Treat any of these as gone unless you see a recent post.

• Go late. Clubs open at midnight and fill after 1am.
• Check the day. Many clubs are closed early in the week.
• Expect smoke indoors, which reviewers mention at several clubs.
• Getting home: metro lines 2 and 3 run all night on Saturdays, as reported by To Vima. On other nights, use an app taxi such as FreeNow or Uber.
• Kerameikos station on line 3 serves the Gazi clubs. Thissio on line 1 is a longer walk.
