Everything was going perfectly until the Belgian barman appeared out of thin air. He marched onto the dance floor specifically to tell me to stop whistling. When I later confronted him at the bar to ask if he was intentionally trying to ruin my night, he claimed another customer had complained. I don’t buy it; I wasn't the only one whistling, and it felt like a personal vendetta. I told him straight out: "You’ve never liked me from day one." Despite his ongoing coldness, I’ve always been nothing but polite to him. He completely soured the atmosphere, and while the venue is usually great, this was the final straw. We had a brief exchange outside as I was leaving where he threatened to "report" me. For what, exactly? I decided to cut my night short and won't be returning.

This is a nice bar but the bouncer is rude and aggressive and I won’t go there anymore because of him. He looks for trouble and when I lost my phone he laughed even though he had it handed in.

I always forget how much I love The Eagle. Always great music and great staff and a fun crowd. In summer, the outside garden and free burgers - a big thank you to the amazing and wonderful Nicola - adds to the fun and atmosphere. Always welcoming and always a great evening.

The door/security staff here are too much. Condescending, abrupt and automatically make you feel like you are under surveillance. Such a shame it’s gone downhill. It must only be Horsemeat Disco on a Sunday that keeps this place going. Won’t be going again. It’s all been redecorated and lost its vibe. Please note also, this is only The Eagle by name and is not to be confused with the international Eagle’s that you find in New York, San Francisco, LA or Toronto etc . far far from it so please be aware. You’d probably be stopped from entering if you dared to wear leather jeans or a harness lol.

I have regularly attended this venue as a safe haven for relaxation for 40years. I went last night with my partner and was appalled! Do not go there. Really bad attitude from bar staff and dj. Dreadful music and atmosphere. They regularly charge twice for your drinks. Check your bank accounts! Enough said.

I visited Eagle London recently after more than 15 years—and wow, what a great experience! It’s still such a cool, iconic venue, and I feel lucky that places like this are still around. In a time when LGBTQ+ spaces are disappearing, Eagle is more important than ever. It’s the perfect mix of cool nostalgia, good ol’ flirting, and fresh, welcoming vibes. The crowd was fun, the energy was great, and the whole night just had that special something that’s hard to find elsewhere. So glad I came back—and I’ll definitely be back again soon!

After 12 years of being a very loyal customer at Eagle, I will no longer set foot in this venue. I have seen Eagle change a huge amount over the years, some things for the better and some for the worst. The painting of the mural, the refurbishing of the garden bar and the introduction of Horsemeat disco all spring to mind as great memories. But one thing always continued to be rather hit and miss - the security on arrival. I know personally a few of the guys that work behind the bar at Eagle and they are all lovely and committed to their jobs. However, the older of the two security men on the door has often left a sour taste in my mouth when either paying to enter or when leaving the venue. He actually has quite a reputation amongst the local gay community for being extremely hostile and rude, even when not warranted. I hope and pray every time I arrive that he might not be there, but alas tonight he was. My friend and I arrived having attended an industry event at the Diageo headquarters. We are both experienced mixologists that work in some high profile bars in London. After the event we attended today, we were gifted some bottles of whiskey to take home. However, I had the suggestion that we should go home via Eagle and enjoy the weekly horsemeat disco as the night was still young. On arrival, the dreaded security guard was on the door and immediately started shouting at us to open our bags and coats. As I began to explain he would find in my friends bag some bottles of whiskey from an event we had just attended, he continued to shout over me and tell me to shut up. It was so bizarre, as if he had completely lost all control of his social skills. I wanted to explain that we had this alcohol and wanted to check it in at the coat room, if someone could escort us there and watch us do it, would that be okay? But the security guard might as well have been a brick wall as he was completely ignoring everything I was saying and continued shouting over me telling me to shut up. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever been spoken to the way this man spoke to me tonight. It was so unnecessary and hostile. My friend and I decided it wasn’t worth trying to explain anything to this man as he was clearly socially inept and looking for an opportunity to intimidate and argue. We left and will never go back. So, after 12 years of supporting Eagle, attending many of their events and discos, having a lovely friendship with lots of their staff, I will now give it a massive swerve. It’s simply not worth the negative experience when arriving. I implore the management at Eagle to review their security staff. I know they have worked at this venue for many years but there is a reason why Eagle does not have the number of punters they used to have. The local gay community in Vauxhall and Kennington have clocked onto the unfriendly welcome they often receive from the security guard in question and so they will always head elsewhere like The Cock Tavern or The Rising where you’re not treated like animals on arrival. It will be easy for management to assume that all this was down to either a misunderstanding or perhaps my friend and I were up to no good, but I hope this review makes them see otherwise. Sometimes people come straight from work, some come from the airport, some even from the gym, so take a second and listen to why someone might have a bag that contains liquids, allow them the opportunity to explain and check it in. Don’t just shout over them and treat them like €#%$. Anyway, all the best Eagle! When you’re closed down and turned into a Youngs pub, don’t say no one warned you…

Handsome at Eagle yesterday was fantastic ! The music by Dan Murphy and Martyn Fitzgerald was great, reminding me of how incredible the sounds we took for granted when visiting CocoLatte, DTPM, and other clubs in the 90s were! Well done guys ! Thank you for the music !

At a loose end after Duckie finished, we were pleased to discover Athena - a great club focused on 80s. The front of house staff were welcoming and the bar staff were swift and friendly. The DJs played great dance music of the 80s, the many screens showed film and TV clips from that time, and the crowd was lively and having fun. And so were we.
