The WE year at a glance
| Season | Home venues | The sound & vibe | The critical logistics tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Regular season (Sep-Jun)** | La Riviera, central | Vocal house, a new theme every edition | Monthly, usually Fridays — easy metro (Príncipe Pío), no bus drama |
| **WE New Year Festival (Dec 28 - Jan 1)** | Fabrik + central venues | Club-house and tribal at full intensity | **The Main Event is Jan 1 afternoon-to-night — NOT Dec 31.** See the blueprint below |
| **WE Pride Festival (early July)** | Fabrik, La Riviera, Sala But | The international mega-week, stacked on Madrid Pride | Buy the ticket **with the Fabrik bus combo** from Plaza de España — non-negotiable |
WE Party built its empire on an insight about Madrid: this city has Europe's biggest Pride (MADO, crowds in the millions) and a New Year's culture that treats January 1st as a party day, not a recovery day — so instead of one annual festival, WE runs two. The winter edition is the connoisseur's pick: the WE New Year Festival, December 28 to January 1, crowned by the legendary January 1st Main Event — an eight-hour marathon that starts while the rest of the world nurses regret. The summer edition, the WE Pride Festival, stacks five days of themed parties onto Madrid Pride week. Between the poles: monthly La Riviera parties September through June, and a summer tour through Torremolinos, Stockholm, and Mexico City. If Circuit Festival is a nine-day siege and XLSIOR is a destination week, WE is a year-round rhythm with two annual crescendos.

via Stay22Foreign visitors get Spanish New Year's exactly backwards, and it ruins their festival. Here's the cultural code: in Spain, December 31st is a family night — dinner at home, the twelve grapes at midnight (one per bell chime, it's a whole thing), and only then, late, do some people trickle out. The city's real party — and WE's Main Event — is January 1st, from the afternoon deep into the night, when the whole scene shows up rested and ready.
So the veteran's plan: land Dec 28-29, do the warm-up parties, keep December 31st gentle — a midnight drink, the grapes if you're invited somewhere (say yes), early night — and arrive at the January 1st Main Event fresh while half the tourists are hungover from fighting the culture. It's the single highest-value piece of advice on this page.
The Circuit Syndicate: WE's global network
What makes WE structurally different from every other brand in this guide: its festivals are built as a stage for everyone else. A typical WE Pride week opens with an XLSIOR Mykonos guest edition at Sala But, hands Thursday to Matinée's infamous Pervert at La Riviera, and folds in its own franchises — Sundia (the pool party), Macho (the fetish line), Dopamine, WE Universe — around the Main Event. The web runs outward too: WE co-produces the closing of Forever Tel Aviv's Pride, and Forever's DJs appear on Madrid lineups. Follow the WE calendar for a year and you'll sample half the brands in this guide without leaving Madrid. That's not an accident — it's the business model, and it's why the crowd is so international for a "local" brand.
The crowd itself skews late-20s-to-40s, shirtless by hour two, and friendlier than the muscle density suggests. "Madrid is the circuit scene with the best manners," as Sergio, 38, a ten-year regular, puts it. "In some cities the door judges you, the floor judges you. Here the guy who looks like an underwear model will carry your drinks back from the bar because the crowd raised him right. Serious about the party, unserious about themselves."
A word on Macho, because it's a different night entirely: WE's fetish line draws its own crowd — darker room, harder music, a real leather/textile dress code, and a far more erotic register than the confetti of the Main Event. It usually lives at Changó or in Fabrik's dedicated rooms. If that's your lane, plan for it specifically; if it isn't, don't wander in confused at 3am.
Fabrik: spectacular, and 35 kilometers away
Hotels near Madrid venues
via Stay22The Main Events and pool parties live at Fabrik — Spain's largest dance venue and a fixture of DJ Mag's world club rankings: seven zones, a 5,000-capacity Main Room with a three-level stage, the Crystal Dome, the Hangar (home of the 07:00 after-party), and the open-air Area 19 terrace with an artificial river.
Now the warning, stated plainly: Fabrik is not "outside the center." It's in Humanes de Madrid — a different town, in an industrial zone, roughly 35 kilometers from your hotel. There is no metro. Regular taxis out there at 4am are scarce and expensive, and ride-apps surge or decline. The official WE buses from Plaza de España (~€10 round trip) are not a convenience — they're the plan. Buy the bus with your ticket, note the return schedule, and don't be the person negotiating with an empty industrial park at dawn.
Sundia survival: the pool party in a 40-degree oven
Sundia — Pride Friday afternoon on Fabrik's Area 19 terrace — is the event Madrid regulars call the best afternoon of the year. It's also July in central Spain: 40°C+ in a dry industrial zone, with very little shade on that terrace. Treat these as protective equipment, not suggestions:
- Hat, sunglasses, SPF 50 — reapplied. The artificial river is not sunscreen.
- Buy two waters every bar run. Queues under the sun stretch to 20 minutes; halving your trips is the whole game.
- Pace the alcohol before sundown. The people carried out of Sundia weren't overdosed — they were dehydrated. Evening you will thank afternoon you.
The Madrid Protocol: timing & survival

via Stay22- Sleep in or near Chueca — the gay district; everything that isn't Fabrik is a short metro or taxi away. The Axel is the classic pick and books out first for both festivals.
- Festival math: all-access ~€250 (VIP ~€670) against €25-70 singles — pays off from the fourth party, and the Main Event + Sundia justify half of it alone.
- December warning: the New Year Festival lands on Spain's holiday double-weekend — Madrid hotels are busy independently of WE. Book with the fall ticket drop.
- Pride pace warning: five WE nights sit on top of MADO itself. The classic rookie collapse is Friday. The veteran line: Sundia in the afternoon, skip the night session, sleep, parade, Main Event.
Where WE sits on the map
The western hub of the network this guide keeps mapping: guest stages for XLSIOR and Circuit Festival, a standing bridge to Forever Tel Aviv, and two anchor dates that bookend the circuit year — New Year's in the winter, and the July week that boards you onto the Barcelona-Mykonos August run.
