Ce que disent les critiques

Visitors praise the comfortable and spacious tents, friendly and attentive staff, and the beautiful views, particularly of Mt. Hood. However, some guests noted that while the location is peaceful, there are no hiking trails directly on the property, requiring a drive to access outdoor activities.

À propos de ce lieu Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge

Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge is a mainstream glamping camp at Oak Ridge Road outside White Salmon, on the Washington side of the gorge across the river from Hood River, Oregon. It is listed as gay-friendly, not a gay venue. Guests stay in furnished safari-style tents, some with private bathrooms. The camp is seasonal, usually open from late spring to early autumn, so check dates before planning. It is a base for hiking, windsurfing and wine tasting around Hood River, a 15-minute drive away. Nights can be cold and the wind is strong; this is the windsurfing capital of the gorge.

What really made our experience amazing was Mr. Patrick and Mr. Alejandro. Patrick somehow manages to be everywhere at once—part concierge and part mind reader. Alejandro was kind warm and made us feel welcome. Honestly, we felt like longtime friends where we just happened to wander into a camp. Loved the experience and their patience with our insanity. Thank you.

Had a great time. The location was beautiful and the tents were comfortable and cozy. Food was delicious and everyone who worked here was so nice and accommodating. Special shout out to Patrick and Alex, who were total rock stars. They were fun and helpful and put up with 2638 questions from us. These guys made our trip extra special.

Wow! What a beautiful and unique experience. I’ve stayed at few of these under the canvas locations this one’s one of the best not too far from town white salmon or even good river for bigger city exploring. Alex was great and welcoming answering questions we had. We saw a lot of wildlife during our short 1 night stay bear, deer, cows, lizards, bunnies. The key to seeing a lot of it is to be silent and aware. It’s a bit of getting used to to shower you have handle you have to kinda hold with one hand while washing yourself with the other. The sink is tricky you have to push the lever down not turn or twist. Space was super clean. Keep in mind for people that have never camped your in a tent. Yes fancy tent but still a tent in the middle of wilderness there will be creatures. If you’re used to hotel stays and never camped maybe consider what your expectations are. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend this experience to everyone.

20-30 min away from anything substantial/fun. View and service is great, though the disappointing thing is there are many bugs (silverfish?) inside the tent. There must be a hole somewhere that’s not sealed, or they don’t seem to clean for bugs because there are bug guts everywhere on the inside of the tent. We found one on our clothes. They give you two power banks for battery. I believe only two of the tents have parking next to the tent themselves. They had events throughout the week like music, scrapbooking, yoga. Overall it was a good experience but lower your expectations on the quality of the tent itself.

Columbia River Gorge: I visited with my family and 94 year old father. We had a delightful time! I had never been glamping and will do it again. The accommodations, staff and views of Mt Hood gave us such a lovely retreat away from our busy lives. Gas fireplaces in each room, plenty of outdoor seating and good food! Games, s’mores, wildflowers, cows. The staff really made this extra delightful. So clean yet surrounded with nature, Food was great (kitchen staff the best!) along with the dark haired young man that greeted us upon arrival. It was obvious he and the entire kitchen staff loved what they do and served us enthusiastically. I wish I had written down their names. Alice, Alina the chef and the dark haired gentleman at front desk who took so much time with us giving us suggestions for day hikes, waterfalls etc. Luxury “camping” with all the amenities. I look forward to staying at another Under the Canvas sight.

We had previously stayed at the Yellowstone location so we were looking forward to seeing how this location was. I spoke with the reservations team prior to our arrival and asked for a quieter location, but when we arrived we were in one of the tents closest to the lobby area. For those who stay up late, that isn’t a problem, but we have a kiddo so having quiet hours begin at 10 pm did not help us. At least the other guests did adhere to those rules. As for the tent, it does provide a wonderful bed, shower and toilet. If you need a hair dryer, you have to head back to the bathrooms in the lobby area, which have hair dryers mounted on the wall. During the spring and summer time, keep in mind that the sun rises pretty early and since you’re in a tent, it will be bright very early - in our case at 4 am! One complaint we had was with the shower. In our tent we did not have to pull lever. Instead we had a regular handle, but the hot water would take a minute to kick in and after a few minutes the water would get cold and so you would have to turn the water off and then immediately turn it back on to get hot water. Definitely not ideal but once you get the hang of it, showering wasn’t terrible. The views of Mount Hood from the camp were beautiful. I definitely enjoyed that. The restaurant was decent, but service could be slow especially during peak time. Overall, it was a nice visit, but sadly, I am not sure we would do this again.
