La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Birmingham - Inverness

I booked this hotel because my husband was having surgery in a hospital near by and this was the most reasonably priced hotel. When I checked in I was told there would be $100 held on the card for “incidentals”, so I asked “what incidentals?” and was told it was in case the room was damaged, or if we smoked in the room. Sounded odd to me but ok. Entered the room to see hair in the tub, but we’re too tired to change rooms. Later that night I discovered a used towel under the bathroom vanity, urine stain on the outside on the toilet bowl, the bolt on the door didn’t work, and the floor had not been swept, much less mopped. I took off my shoes, walked around the room gathering clothes to take a shower, went into the shower and removed my white socks to find the bottoms filthy 🤢

I can confidently say this was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had at a La Quinta Inn. From the moment I pulled into the parking lot, I felt uncomfortable. There were people outside selling items out of their cars, and as I approached the entrance, a man was standing at the front door asking for money. That immediately raised serious safety concerns for me. Before even checking in, I went to the front desk and requested a refund, explaining exactly what I had just witnessed. Instead of addressing my concerns, the staff member told me the people outside were “good people” who had been around for a long time. He refused to issue a refund. After going back and forth for about 30 minutes and realizing I wasn’t going to get my money back, I felt forced to check in because I had already prepaid around $200 and didn’t want to lose it. Unfortunately, things only got worse from there. When I entered the room, the conditions were unacceptable. The sheets were dirty, the room looked like it was still under construction (one wall painted gray, another white with fresh paint smell), and the bed was visibly slanted as if it was broken down. I didn’t even stay 5 minutes. I immediately went back downstairs, checked out, and left. I ended up booking another hotel that I actually felt safe and comfortable in, costing me another $200 out of pocket. I’ve stayed at other La Quinta locations before and never had an issue, but this one was far below standard. The lack of cleanliness, safety concerns, and refusal to refund made this an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience. Save your money and go somewhere else.
