Hôtel Rouge (Kimpton)

Outgoing, friendly staff that went above & beyond to make sure I had a great stay!

This hotel is gorgeous and fun. Acommodations and amenities were great. Great spot to grab drinks or spend a night relaxing and enjoying the scenery. I was there for a photoshoot and it was perfect. The only downside was due to it's proximity to the White House there was a protest going on when I arrived. But it was over quickly and didn't ruin my night. Edited 5/26 -- I wanted to say thus hotel has been renovated since my visit and is nothing like it was when I visited, which is sad because it was such a fun place to stay. I wish there was another one like it.

One of the nicest hotel I have been in DC. Rooms are big and make you feel more like in a very nice apt.

The two-star review was designed for a place like Kempton Banneker. I'll start with the good. Their front desk staff is excellent. Check in was a breeze, the desk clerk could not have been more friendly and helpful. They cleaned my room. I'm only here for two nights, so they only had one chance to forget to clean my room, and they did good. Why then only two stars? At the ridiculous room rate one expects something special. They can sell the rooms at the ridiculous prices they do because other hotels get away with it also. I recently stayed down the street at a Marriott citizen M property, paid ridiculous room rate, but I at least I had a nice view of the Capitol building dome from my bed. The Kimpton Banneker has literally nothing special about it. The room is large and clean and reasonably comfortable. The bathroom has shampoo and conditioner and it smells good. But it's ordinary. My view out the window is of a back alley. There's a really attractive restaurant attached to the front of the hotel. But an artsy fancy restaurant is not a hotel amenity. The restaurant has a sort of Caribbean island vibe, but it needs a pool or something to complete the experience. And the 10 or 15% discount they give you is a joke. Mind you, I am not a penny-pincher, although you couldn't tell that by this review. But I spend a huge amount of time traveling both for work and pleasure. I love a comfortable hotel that has something special about it. I can live with mundane for about a third the price I paid for the Kimpton Banneker. Final note: IHG properties are usually not a disappointment. But never find yourself having to deal with their incompetent customer service on the phone. They are poorly trained. They aren't allowed to make any decisions. They have no sympathy for an American traveler with certain expectations, simple expectations. They read from a script. I've had crises ranging from checking into a hotel that has no hot water to having my reservation canceled during a transcontinental flight because the hotel couldn't reach me by phone. For this stay, I had to talk to them on the phone about my IHG rewards account. Angry and incompetent are gift words for the customer service agent that I dealt with. Thankfully, when I checked in, the desk clerk made it all better.

Everything was good except for the 1st 2 days only one elevator was working.

Traveling to Washington, DC to celebrate my son’s USMC promotion, and I found my new go-to hotel! 🇺🇸✨ The Kimpton Banneker Hotel checked every box for me — clean, comfortable, and everything I needed in one place. It's the little details of having a robe, an umbrella to use during your stay and much more. Plus, having an amazing restaurant right on site made it even better. When you find a place that just gets it right, you keep it on your list for the next trip! I’ll definitely be staying here again when I’m back in DC. 🏨❤️ Say hello to Tiffany and Channel, the 2 beautiful ladies at the front desk. They are AMAZING and both have great personalities. Management keep them and give them a raise. Also at the restaurant the bartender,Mek and server, Helen were GREAT with amazing customer service!!!

The hotel has a good location and generally comfortable rooms. However, the service was disappointing. We arrived late to find our prepaid two-queen room had been changed to a king + pull-out sofa without proper notice. Staff called it an “upgrade” instead of being transparent about their inventory issues. Pushing back for any resolution felt difficult. Worse, an expensive item left in the room was never reported as found. A supervisor promised to investigate and call back but never did. Communication remained unhelpful and evasive. Poor hospitality and lack of accountability. Expected way better.

Excellent stay at the Kimpton Banneker Hotel. The hotel is very clean with modern, well-designed rooms. The location in Dupont Circle is amazing and very convenient for exploring DC. There is plenty of free street parking available in front of the hotel and nearby on weekends, which was a big plus. Tiffany at the front desk was very helpful and professional throughout our stay. Would definitely stay here again on my next trip to DC!

Stay was in 2025. We booked three rooms for this trip, and while the rooms themselves were nice and the location is solid, the checkout and billing experience was extremely disappointing. We encountered significant billing errors across all three rooms and left with five printed folios totaling over $1,000 in incorrect charges, which were later corrected through IHG. We also overheard multiple other guests experiencing similar issues at checkout. When we asked for staff names to document the situation, they were not provided. The manager was cordial, but appeared disengaged and mentioned he was transitioning to another property. After more than 1,200 hotel nights, this was the most mismanaged billing and checkout process I’ve experienced. As a travel advisor, I would not feel comfortable recommending this property based on that alone.

The staff is so friendly! Everyone said hello as I passed them. Great location(super easy for Uber to pick up/drop off at). They have a restaurant for breakfast and dinner...lunch options were plentiful within 1-2 blocks. And there is a whole foods just a 3 minute walk away. Great to replenish my snacks in my work backpack!

Service needs some help. Checked in late...desk person was kind, but was unsure of where the dog bowls were when asked. Kind of a thing for Kimpton's right? Dined for breakfast in the morning. Server was CRAZED. While food was good and at a decent price, I wanted to take a to-go order up to my room for my partner, when asked "Can I get you anything else, sir" I asked for the to-go food and she said, no, the kitchen is closed (at 10:40am yes) but why ask if I wanted anything else?
