Cali runs hot. By mid-afternoon the streets of Granada are shimmering, the ceiling fans in the corner shops are on full, and every bus seems to be playing salsa. Then, around five, the brisa caleña rolls down from the Andes and the city breathes out. That cool late afternoon is also when Cali's cruising scene wakes up: behind unmarked doors in Granada and La Alameda, men trade the heat outside for steam rooms, plunge pools and dark mazes. The scene is small and local: a handful of men's saunas, a gay bar with a back room, and Grindr doing the rest. It is easy to enjoy, as long as you take the city's one serious risk, drugging and robbery, seriously.

Legal in one line: sex between men is legal in Colombia, same-sex marriage has been legal since 2016 and joint adoption since 2015, and discrimination based on sexual orientation has been a criminal offence since 2011. Saunas and bars for adults are legal private venues. Sex in public space is not allowed: see the box on the law and safety below.

How cruising works in Cali

Caleños mostly meet on Grindr, but the city still has a set of men's saunas, which locals simply call saunas or clubes de hombres, where cruising is part of the deal: steam rooms, a dark room or maze, and cabins. They are afternoon and early-evening places; most open around midday or early afternoon and close by late evening, with later hours on some weekends. Two of them, plus the main gay bars, are in Granada, the leafy nightlife district in the north; the third is in La Alameda, south of the centre. Bring pesos in cash (at least one sauna has been criticised in 2025 reviews for taking cash only) and leave valuables at your hotel. Our full Cali saunas page compares them.

The saunas

Phisicus 21 · Av. 3 Norte #13-19, Granada

The Granada sauna, a few blocks from the gay bars. It has a pool, a steam room, a dark room and a maze. In its own social media post the sauna, which also has a branch in Pereira, announced daily opening from 12:00 to 21:00, with phone numbers 602 382 1687 and 311 398 0907; other listings give later closing at weekends, so call before a late visit. Queer in the World's Cali guide describes it as the club that draws the most attractive men; reviews of upkeep are mixed, so read recent ones first. It works well as an afternoon stop before a night out on Avenida 9 Norte.

CaliClub · Calle 8 #26-61, La Alameda

A large club in La Alameda, south of the centre, with a sauna, cabins and a rooftop area mentioned by reviewers. Queer in the World calls it "the most European gay sauna" in Cali. Be aware that its website has two programmes, Cali Club Masculino for men, including nudist nights, and Cali Club Swinger, so check which one is running on the day you go. Wanderlog lists it as open from 14:00 every day, closing at 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday and 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, with phone +57 317 751 5633. Google reviewers rate it highly overall and praise the young crowd, but a December 2025 review complained that it was cash only, overcrowded and unhygienic. Take a taxi app to the door.

Metropolis Club de Hombres · Calle 22 Norte #2N-50, El Piloto

A men's club just north of the centre, near Granada. Spartacus lists it as exclusively or almost exclusively for gay men, with a dry sauna, steam bath, jacuzzi, a bar with a full range of drinks, an outdoor terrace and video shows, plus different themes through the week. We found no dated 2025–26 review, so phone ahead (312 288 0682) to confirm opening hours and the night's theme.

Working men: as in many Latin American saunas, some of the men you meet may be sex workers. Queer in the World's Cali guide advises agreeing on any price before anything happens, and bringing your own condoms, as they may not be on sale inside.

Bars with a back room

Black and White Cats · Calle 14 Norte, Granada

A gay bar with Latin DJ sets, cocktails and a cruising area at the back (no showers, as one regular puts it). It's very local: a 2026 reviewer complained it's "always the same five" regulars, so it's at its best late on a busy weekend, after the other Granada bars. Website: blackandwhiteclubcali.com. For the rest of the bar scene, from the drag cabaret at Regia to the dance floor at Amaranta, see our Cali bars guide.

Porn cinemas and video venues

Like most Colombian cities, Cali once had adult cinemas and "video" venues in the centre where men cruised in the dark. Old online directories still list a few, but we found no 2025–26 confirmation that any gay porn cinema or video club is operating, and the centre at night is not where a visitor wants to go looking. Stick to the saunas.

Uncertain: undated gay directories for Cali still list older saunas and "video" venues in the centre and the south. We could not find any recent sign that they still trade, so we have left them out. If you hear of one from a local, phone first.

Outdoors and in public

Cali, like any big city, has parks and riverside walks with a reputation among men, but we don't send you to any of them. They are busy public spaces by day, and after dark the risks below are real. With three saunas open in the afternoon and evening, there's no need to take them.

The law and your safety:

    • The police code: under Article 33, numeral 2, of the Código Nacional de Seguridad y Convivencia Ciudadana (Ley 1801 of 2016), sexual acts or exhibitionism in public space are behaviour that breaks public peace, punished with a multa general tipo 3, a fine of 16 days of the legal minimum wage. Police can stop you and issue a comparendo (fine notice) on the spot.
    • Robbery: quiet paths, dark car parks and strangers' flats are where thieves look for people who won't go to the police. Carry only your phone, one card and a little cash.
    • Police: if officers approach you, stay calm, be polite and show ID; carry a copy of your passport. If someone claiming to be police asks to "check" your money, ask to go to the nearest police post, a CAI.
    • Emergency: the national emergency number is 123.

Scopolamine and app dates: the one risk that matters

Cali has a long history of robberies using escopolamina, also called burundanga, a drug that leaves victims compliant and with little memory, slipped into a drink or food. In December 2023 Cali's metropolitan police arrested a woman who, they said, had met victims, mostly foreigners, on Tinder, drugged them with scopolamine and emptied their bank accounts, more than 1,000 million pesos in all, and who had planned to target visitors during the Feria de Cali. In March 2025 the Cali newspaper Occidente warned again about strangers who win trust in shopping centres, parks and clubs, drug their victims and rob them, and urged care with people met on dating apps. Gay men are targeted too: in 2025 Bogotá police arrested a man accused of using Grindr to lure, drug and rob foreign tourists. The US State Department rates Colombia at Level 3, "Reconsider travel", and specifically warns about criminals posing as dates.

    Scopolamine: how to protect yourself

    • Meet app dates first in a busy bar, café or sauna, not in your room.
    • Never accept an open drink from someone you have just met, and don't leave yours unattended.
    • Don't take a stranger back to your room on the first meeting. Choose a hotel that registers visitors at the door, and tell a friend or the desk who is coming.
    • Be wary of new profiles with few photos that push to come straight to you or to "show you the city".
    • Carry one card and a little cash; leave passports and spare cards in the hotel safe. Set low daily limits on your bank and transfer apps before going out, and lock your phone with a code, not just a face scan.
    • If you or a friend suddenly feel very drunk or confused after one drink, tell the staff, call 123 and go to a hospital emergency department (urgencias).

A Cali afternoon, the local way

Cali calls itself the world capital of salsa, and the music is everywhere: in taxis, on shop radios and in the gay bars, where the DJ slides from reggaeton into a salsa classic and the whole room changes partners. Spend the day in San Antonio, the colonial hilltop barrio with its little white church and sunset views, take a beginner salsa class, then try your steps at La Topa Tolondra (Calle 5 #13-27), a mixed salsa bar where nobody minds who you dance with. Between the sauna and the bars, cool down with a tangy lulada made from the sour lulo fruit, and at night order a bottle of Aguardiente Blanco del Valle, the region's anise spirit, for the table. The morning after, caleños swear by a bowl of cazuela de mariscos, a creamy seafood stew.

    Practical tips

    • Getting around: use Uber, DiDi or InDrive, door to door, and book from inside the sauna or bar. Don't hail taxis on the street late at night, and don't walk between neighbourhoods after dark.
    • Cash: the currency is the Colombian peso (COP). Carry small notes for entry and drinks; prices change, so ask at the desk. Use ATMs inside shopping centres or in daylight.
    • Lockers: use them, and leave anything you'd hate to lose at the hotel.
    • Phones and photos: no photos inside cruising areas, ever.
    • Consent: "no" is enough, in any room, at any time.
    • PrEP and PEP: bring your full PrEP supply. If a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours: go to a hospital emergency department (urgencias) or a Profamilia clinic.
    • Chems: if GHB/GBL is around, never mix it with alcohol and never dose for someone else. Call 123 in an emergency.
    • Busy weeks: the Feria de Cali (25–30 December) fills the city with salsa parades and parties; it's also when thieves target visitors, so double the precautions.

    Pride

Cali's Marcha LGBTIQ+ is held at the end of June. In 2026 it took place on Sunday 28 June, starting at 2 p.m. at the Diamante de Béisbol (Carrera 39 #9D-40) and ending at the Bulevar del Oriente, and the Granada bars held their biggest parties that weekend. The 2027 date had not been announced at the time of writing. For Colombia's other big marches, see our Bogotá and Medellín cruising guides.

A few words of caleño Spanish

    • ¿Cuánto vale la entrada? – how much is entry?
    • Casillero – locker. Toalla – towel. Efectivo – cash.
    • Cuarto oscuro – dark room. Laberinto – maze. Turco – steam room.
    • Condón – condom.
    • Urgencias – hospital emergency department.
    • Vos – caleños use it instead of tú; mirá means "look".
    • ¡Ve! – the city's signature exclamation, at the end of every second sentence.
    • Parche – your group of friends, or a plan. Rumba – a night out.
    • Sabroso – delicious, great; the highest praise for a song, a dancer or a man.
    • No, gracias – no, thanks. Always enough.

Frequently asked questions

Where is gay cruising in Cali?

Almost all of it is indoors, in a few men's saunas and in bar back rooms. Phisicus 21 in Granada, CaliClub in La Alameda and Metropolis in El Piloto are the saunas, and Black and White Cats in Granada is a gay bar with a cruising area at the back. Most men also use Grindr.

Is Phisicus 21 in Cali open in 2026?

As far as we can tell, yes. The sauna at Avenida 3 Norte #13-19 in Granada has posted daily opening from noon, and it still appears in current sauna listings. Hours change, so call or check its social media before you go.

Is outdoor cruising legal in Cali?

Sex between men is legal in Colombia, but sexual acts or exhibitionism in public space break the national police code, Ley 1801 of 2016, and can bring a type 3 general fine. Robbery is the bigger risk after dark, so the saunas are the safer choice.

How do I avoid scopolamine robbery in Cali?

Meet app dates in a busy bar or café first, never accept a drink you did not see poured, and do not take a stranger back to your room on the first meeting. Carry one card and a little cash, and if someone suddenly feels very drunk after one drink, call 123 and go to urgencias.

When was Cali Pride 2026?

The Marcha LGBTIQ+ de Cali was held on Sunday 28 June 2026, starting at 2 p.m. at the Diamante de Béisbol on Carrera 39 and ending at the Bulevar del Oriente. The 2027 date had not been announced at the time of writing; expect the end of June again.
