Cologne has one of Germany's most active gay scenes — the "Bermuda Triangle" of gay bars around Mathiasstraße is one of Europe's most concentrated LGBTQ+ bar streets. Outdoor cruising spots exist across the city, and indoor venues complement the outdoor options.
Volksgarten Park
A 35-hectare city park with a boating lake, beer garden, and wooded sections — the green spaces away from the main paths see activity in evenings and nights. Well-connected to the city centre by public transport. The park is large enough that the active areas are distinct from the family-oriented sections.
Rheinpark
Riverside park along the Rhine with scenic views and hidden paths offering privacy. The riverside paths and more secluded sections see activity particularly on afternoons and evenings. Accessible by U-Bahn (Deutzer Brücke area).
Grüngürtel (Green Belt)
The 8+ kilometre green belt around Cologne — extensive and varied. Multiple entry and exit points. The wooded sections further from main paths have established reputations as meeting spots for the city's gay community.
Indoor Venues
- Station 2B — city centre men's club with dedicated cruising facilities: mazes, cabins, and dimly lit spaces. Welcoming to newcomers exploring the scene.
- Phoenix Sauna — 24-hour weekend operations; steam room, Finnish sauna, whirlpool, private cabins. The late-night option when the parks aren't practical.
- Pullermanns (Mathiasstraße 18-20) — men-only cruise bar, formerly called "Hands and Boners." Primarily attracts 35+ crowd. Part of the Mathiasstraße gay bar district.
The Gay District
The "Bermuda Triangle" — the dense cluster of gay bars around Mathiasstraße, Schaafenstraße, and surrounding streets in central Cologne. Bar hopping here on a Friday or Saturday evening puts you at the centre of one of Germany's most energetic gay scenes. Cologne Pride (Christopher Street Day) is in July and draws up to a million people — one of the largest Pride events in Germany.
