Best Cruising Areas in Florianópolis

In summer Floripa smells of sunscreen and grilled corn, the roads to the east-coast beaches crawl with traffic, and the dunes behind Praia Mole fill with surfers and men in small swimwear. In winter the vento sul, the cold southern wind, empties the sand and the city turns back to its old centre, where the action moves indoors. The cruising scene here is small and mostly local: one men's club with a cruising floor in Centro, darkrooms inside the saunas, a mainland sauna-and-cruise-bar in São José, and the beach life of Praia Mole and Galheta. A promising new cruise bar opened in late 2024 and is already reported closed. Here's what you can count on in 2026, and where the law draws the line.

Legal in one line: sex between men is legal in Brazil, same-sex marriage has been recognised since 2013, and since 2019 homophobia has been punishable as a form of racism. Cruise clubs and saunas are legal private venues for adults. Sex in a public place is not: ato obsceno (Article 233 of the Penal Code) can bring three months to a year in prison or a fine.

How cruising works in Florianópolis

Locals call it pegação. Nearly all of it starts on the apps, and the indoor venues cluster in Centro, on the island, a few streets from each other, with one more across the bridges in São José. The beaches are on the other side of the island, on the east coast. The city is spread out, buses are slow after dark, and the island and mainland venues are a car ride apart, so plan the night around Uber or 99.

Summer vs winter: from December to Carnival the island fills with Brazilian and Argentine visitors, the beaches are busy every day and the venues run parties. Out of season the beaches are quiet on weekdays and the scene is mostly locals in town, so check each venue's Instagram for that week's hours before heading out.

The cruise club

153 Men's Club · Calçadão João Pinto 153, Centro

A men's club on the pedestrianised João Pinto in the old centre. Travel Gay describes a well-stocked bar, a social area and a dance floor with a DJ on the ground floor, and a darker cruising area upstairs. Floripa.LGBT, in a guide last updated in December 2025, describes that upper floor as a labyrinth of shared and private cabins, with shows and DJs below. Travel Gay lists Thursday and Sunday 20:00–02:00 and Friday and Saturday 22:00–04:00; Floripa.LGBT also gives Wednesdays from 20:00. No price is published, so ask at the door, and check the club's social media for the night's programme.

Closed: Rapáshh Cruising Bar (Rua Fernando Machado 187, Centro), whose name imitates the local accent, opened in November 2024 with a darkroom, cabins, glory holes, a glass-walled shower and themed nights from karaoke to blackout and fetish evenings. The local Guia Gay Floripa now lists it as opened in 2024 and closed in 2025, and we found no sign of 2026 events. Don't go without checking its social media first.

Saunas with darkrooms (briefly)

For most visitors the saunas are where cruising happens in Floripa. The full rundown, with prices and hours, is in our Florianópolis saunas guide. In short:

• For Homme (R. Gen. Bittencourt 317, Centro): the modern one. Floripa.LGBT lists a darkroom, a group bed, private cabins, glory holes, a cruising bar, a video room, a smoking area and dry and steam saunas, open Tuesday to Sunday from 16:00. Its website lists R$65 entry, or R$50 on the daily list. Photo ID is compulsory.
• Thermas 2500 (R. Luiz Delfino 231, Centro), also known as Thermas Oceano: the long-running men-only sauna, with a dark room, a maze, glory holes and a sling, open daily from 15:00.
• Duo (R. José João de Souza 589, Roçado, São José): on the mainland, now promoting itself as a cruising bar as well as a sauna, with a darkroom, a labyrinth, glory holes, cabins, a cinema lounge and voyeur and BDSM areas. Opening days differ between sources (Tuesday to Sunday, or Wednesday to Monday, from 14:00), so confirm by WhatsApp first.

Adelino Sauna in Capoeiras is still listed, but Floripa.LGBT could not confirm in late 2025 that it was open, so phone ahead.

The beaches: Praia Mole and Galheta

Praia Mole, on the island's east coast past Lagoa da Conceição, is the gay-popular beach of Florianópolis: a surf beach backed by dunes, social and busy on summer weekends, with the LGBTQ+ Bar do Deca on the sand. It's a place to sunbathe, swim, drink a caipirinha and meet people, not a cruising ground.

Praia da Galheta, the next beach north, is wild and undeveloped and can only be reached on foot, by trails from Praia Mole or from Barra da Lagoa (a local blogger timed the Barra da Lagoa route at about 70 minutes in 2025). It has long been popular with gay men and naturists, and a local writer links men meeting each other with the wooded trail between Galheta and Praia Mole rather than with the beach itself.

Galheta, nudity and the law:

• Nudity: naturism was authorised at Galheta in 1997, but the city council's legislative department says the 2016 law that made the area the Monumento Natural Municipal da Galheta revoked it. Signs banning naturism went up in May 2024, and Folhapress reported that year that municipal inspectors were using drones to find nude bathers. A bill to allow naturism on the sand and in the sea (not on the trails), backed by the friends' association AGAL and the Brazilian Naturism Federation, cleared a council committee in November 2025 but still needed further votes. Until it passes, keep your swimwear on.
• Sex in public: under Article 233 of the Penal Code, an obscene act in a public place, or one open or exposed to the public, is punishable by three months to a year in prison or a fine. Touching someone sexually without their consent is the separate, more serious crime of importunação sexual (Article 215-A). The city has defended the nudity ban by saying it helps prevent obscene acts and sexual harassment at Galheta, so a complaint from another beachgoer can bring the police.
• The trails: they are steep, wooded and isolated. Go in daylight, in company if you can, wear proper shoes, carry water, and leave before the light goes. The naturist federation has reported conflicts and violence against naturists and LGBT+ people at Galheta, so stay alert and don't follow strangers off the path.
• Valuables: take only your phone, a card and a little cash, and never leave a bag unattended on the sand.
• Emergency: call 190 for the Military Police and 192 for an ambulance (SAMU).

Bars to start the night

None of these are cruise bars, but they're where the night begins. Gandaia Bar (Av. Hercílio Luz 399, Centro) opened in July 2025 with a stage for drag shows, a dance floor and karaoke and pop nights, and Hercília Bar (Rua Saldanha Marinho 252) is a gay-friendly bar with games and themed parties. A Floripa night, the local way

Start at sunset by the water in Santo Antônio de Lisboa or Ribeirão da Ilha with a plate of ostras, the oysters farmed in the bays between the island and the mainland, eaten raw with lemon or gratinated. Then head back to Centro for the bars. In February, Carnival takes over the city: the 2026 Pop Gay show on Carnival Monday, 16 February, was headlined by the singer Gloria Groove.

Practical tips

• Getting around: Uber and 99 work across Greater Florianópolis. At night, order a car door to door, from inside the venue, rather than waiting on an empty street. In high summer, allow extra time on the bridges and the beach roads. City buses run through terminals such as TICEN in Centro; fine by day, slow at night.
• Entry and ID: bring a passport or photo ID; For Homme requires it. Prices are in reais and change often: ask at the door.
• Paying: carry a card and some cash. Pix, Brazil's instant payment, needs a Brazilian bank account and CPF number, so don't let a venue assume you have it.
• Lockers and phones: lock your phone, wallet and passport away, and never take photos in cruising areas.
• Dress code: none at the saunas beyond the towel; check the club's social media for underwear or fetish nights.
• Consent: a step back or a hand moved away means no, and não, obrigado is always enough.
• Apps: Grindr and Hornet are both used. Meet first in a bar or café, share your location with a friend, and never send money or a Pix to someone you've only met online.
• PrEP and PEP: Brazil's public health system, the SUS, provides HIV testing, PrEP and PEP free of charge. If a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours: go to a public UPA (24-hour emergency unit) or a hospital emergency department and ask for PEP.
• Chems: if GHB/GBL is around, never mix it with alcohol and never dose for someone else. Call 192 in an emergency.

Pride

The Parada do Orgulho LGBTI+ de Florianópolis is held late in the year on Avenida Beira-Mar Continental, on the mainland side, gathering at the foot of the Hercílio Luz bridge at midday and moving about two kilometres to the Beira-Mar Continental park. The 17th edition took place on Sunday 17 November 2024, and the 18th on Saturday 29 November 2025, with the theme Envelhecer LGBTI+: memória, resistência & futuro (ageing LGBTI+) and Wanessa Camargo as headliner; organisers expected around 100,000 people. At the start of November 2026, we couldn't find a confirmed date for the 19th edition, so watch Floripa.LGBT for the announcement. The cruise club and saunas are at their busiest that weekend.

Frequently asked questions

Where is gay cruising in Florianópolis?

Mostly indoors in Centro, on the island. The 153 Men's Club on the Calçadão João Pinto has a bar downstairs and a cruising floor with cabins upstairs, and the For Homme and Thermas 2500 saunas both have darkrooms. On the mainland, Duo in São José combines a sauna with a cruising bar. Most men also use Grindr or Hornet.

Is Rapáshh Cruising Bar still open?

Probably not. Rapáshh opened at Rua Fernando Machado 187 in November 2024, but the local Guia Gay Floripa now lists it as closed in 2025. Check its social media before making the trip, and use the 153 Men's Club or the saunas instead.

Is Praia da Galheta a nudist beach?

Not officially at the moment. Naturism was authorised in 1997, but the city treats the 2016 law creating the Galheta Natural Monument as having ended it, and municipal inspectors have used drones to find nude bathers.
