About this place Praia Mole

Praia Mole is the reason many LGBTQ+ visitors come to Florianópolis — indeed, it is the reason many come to Brazil. Situated on the Atlantic-facing east coast of the Ilha de Santa Catarina between two dramatic granite headlands, Praia Mole has been established as Brazil's preeminent gay beach outside Rio de Janeiro's Ipanema for decades. The beach has the natural qualities that make a great beach: warm clear Atlantic water, soft sand (mole means soft in Portuguese), a natural amphitheatre formed by the surrounding hills, and the spectacular backdrop of the Atlantic Forest on the headlands. But its reputation is built on its human qualities: the concentrated LGBTQ+ presence that transforms it during the summer months (December through March) into one of the most exuberant gay beach scenes in the world. The beach bars — barracas — are central to the experience: cold beer, caipirinhas, grilled shrimp, and music; the crowd flows between the water and the barracas throughout the day. The scene is predominantly gay male in the central section of the beach but inclusive of lesbians, bisexual people, and LGBTQ+-friendly visitors across the beach's length. During peak summer, particularly in January, Praia Mole draws visitors from across Brazil (especially São Paulo and Rio) and from Argentina — the Argentine gay travel tradition to Floripa is well-established. The beach is accessible from central Florianópolis by bus (approximately 40 minutes) or by car. Visitors should note that Praia Mole has significant surf in winter months (April through October) and that the December-to-March summer season is the time for the full gay beach experience.

Beautiful wave beach, ideal for surfing. I went with my surfing partner and my bodyboarding son. The water is clear and warm. I got in a little bit because it's a very coarse silver.

The beach is small and you can’t rest because they play horrible music loud, your head rumbles

My precious beach, beautiful, wonderful life, incredible trail. I did not go into the sea when I went, I want to go back and have the experience.

Beautiful beach with crystal clear water and white sand! It owns restaurants, but due to the low season month, only one was running. We love it!!!

It is a beautiful beach, but suitable for surfing. For those with a small child, I recommend other beaches with the more calm sea.

Absurd to exploit the flanellines in this town! Disappointing how the city council allows them to close access to the beaches to explore parking lots! Here the population can not go to the beach without paying R$ 30,00 or often R$ 40,00 for parking! If you go in the morning on one beach in the afternoon in another, there were R$ 80.00 only parking!

Very quiet to relax. There are few umbrellas. It is best to go to the stop and drink some suco overlooking the sea.The staff is very good.

Beautiful beach, quiet and with space, the umbrellas were not on top. Some waves but very nice sea. Very friendly vendors of the paradores.

Small beach, walk from Barra de Lagos about 15 minutes along a path. It is small, but beautiful, when the tide rises you can no longer be there, since the waves enter to the bottom of the beach. From above there is a viewpoint where the beach looks beautiful.

The view of the beach is beautiful. The color of wonderful water. Whoever loves waves is ideal. In my case I prefer quiet beaches so I did not bathe and more when going with a child, really the waves are strong. But the divine sight.
