About this place Praia da Galheta

Praia da Galheta is one of Florianópolis's most celebrated gay beaches, attracting a vibrant queer community of both locals and visitors. Located in Santa Catarina's capital, this beach offers a relaxed, inclusive environment where LGBTQ+ travellers can enjoy the sun, sea, and social scene alongside like-minded people. The beach's popularity within the gay community has made it a natural gathering spot, especially during peak season, where you'll find a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. As a gay beach destination, Praia da Galheta represents the kind of informal, community-driven space that makes beach culture special in Brazil's LGBTQ+ travel scene. Unlike formal venues, the appeal here is the freedom to be yourself in a predominantly queer space, surrounded by beautiful coastal scenery. The beach draws a diverse crowd and tends to have a laid-back, social vibe where conversations flow easily and connections happen naturally. When planning a visit, keep in mind that this is a public beach with a strong gay presence rather than a commercial venue with amenities. Come prepared with sunscreen, water, and snacks. The beach is accessible to anyone, but the queer community has established it as a welcoming destination. It's an ideal spot to experience Florianópolis's LGBTQ+ culture in a natural setting—perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the company of the local and visiting gay community.

The beach is not a nudist beach, as the practice is prohibited by law. I completely agree; after all, a public place as beautiful as this shouldn't be restricted to those who adopt that lifestyle. We didn't find any signs indicating that it was a naturist beach, so we followed the trail without knowing. Even though it isn't, there are still clueless people/tourists (mostly elderly people and men) who continue the practice, showing no respect for the local population, families, and children. The silence of the righteous strengthens the voice of those who promote what is wrong.
