Feast Festival
About This Event
Feast is Adelaide's queer arts and culture festival. It runs for about three weeks every November and has been going since the late 1990s: the 2025 edition was billed as its 28th year, and the festival says it turns 30 in 2027. It isn't a parade-and-party Pride. Most of the programme is theatre, cabaret, comedy, visual art, talks and community events, many of them small and in suburban venues, alongside a few big free days that bring everyone together.
The programme works as an open-access festival. Feast produces some of the events itself and registers the rest from independent artists and community groups, so quality varies and prices range from free to full theatre tickets. The Adelaide Queer Film Festival at The Piccadilly in North Adelaide runs as a strand inside it. The free public moments are the opening street party and the closing Picnic in the Park, which has a market, food stalls and a dog show hosted by co-founder Margie Fischer.
In practice: November in Adelaide is warm, and most venues are close to the CBD. If your time is short, pick the opening weekend or the closing picnic, then use the online programme to choose shows.
The 2025 festival ran from November 1 to 23 with 117 events across 67 venues, marking 50 years since South Australia became the first Australian state to decriminalise homosexuality. The 2026 festival has been officially announced for November 1 to 22, 2026, with the theme Joy. InDaily reported more than 150 events, the biggest programme Feast has had. The free opening street party is on Hyde Street on October 30, and the closing Picnic in the Park is at Whitmore Square/Iparrityi on Sunday, November 22, headlined by Bernie Van Tiel. Executive director Skye Bee and creative director Katherine Sortini lead the festival. Feast doesn't publish a reliable attendance figure, and we didn't find an independent one.
