Mexico is broadly LGBTQ+ friendly in major cities and tourist destinations. Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Cancún all have active gay scenes. Attitudes can be more conservative in smaller cities and rural areas.
Yes — same-sex marriage is legal nationwide in Mexico since October 2022, when the final state (Tamaulipas) extended the right. The Supreme Court had ruled state-level bans unconstitutional in 2015.
Puerto Vallarta is the country's top gay resort town — the Zona Romántica is one of the most established gay beach destinations in the Americas. Mexico City's Zona Rosa is a major urban gay quarter. Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Guadalajara also have active scenes.
Mexico City Pride (Marcha del Orgullo LGBT+) is the last Saturday of June and draws hundreds of thousands. Puerto Vallarta's Vallarta Pride is in late May. Guadalajara Pride is in mid-June.
