About This Event
Rio's Parada do Orgulho LGBTI+ is a beach Pride like no other: trucks and crowds line Avenida Atlântica, with Copacabana's sand on one side and its hotel towers on the other. It's been going strong since 1995, organized by Grupo Arco-Íris de Cidadania LGBTI+, a civil-rights group that keeps the politics front and center. Claudio Nascimento, the group's president, ensures the speeches stay serious, even as the music blasts and the crowd dances in swimwear.
The parade follows a classic Brazilian format: trios elétricos, sound trucks with stages, crawl along the beachfront, carrying drag performers, DJs, and singers. The crowd moves with them, often gathering near Posto 5 late in the morning. It's free, open-air, and gets going early. If you're looking to spend some money, there are beach-kiosk parties, hotel rooftop events, and club nights to choose from, mostly in Copacabana and Ipanema.
Rio's Pride doesn't happen in June like most others - it's held on a Sunday in late November, when summer's just starting and the sun beats down. Afternoon storms are possible, so be prepared. Hotels along Atlântica fill up fast, and prices skyrocket, so book your room early. Ipanema's just a short ride away, with its gay beach stretch at Rua Farme de Amoedo. Leave your valuables at the hotel, as theft is a risk in the crowded beach area.
The 30th edition, on Sunday, 23 November 2025, marked three decades of the parade, with 15 trios and over 100 acts. The next day, the crowd was still buzzing. The 31st edition is set for Sunday, 22 November 2026, on Copacabana's seafront, with the theme "Reconhecemos justa toda forma de amor e de existência."
