Gay Cruising in Rio de Janeiro: The Honest 2026 Guide

The honest summary: Rio's cruising has moved indoors. Centro now has a full set of men-only clubs, including a 24-hour Dédalos that opened in 2026, and the saunas do the rest. Outdoor spots still exist, but Brazilian law and the robbery risk both point the same way: go to a club.
Legal in one line: sex between men is legal and protected in Brazil, but sex in a public place is a crime (ato obsceno, Penal Code art. 233), and police patrols increased after a 2025 incident.
Cruising clubs and darkrooms
- Dédalos Rio, Av. Almirante Calógeras 6, Centro. The São Paulo brand's Rio branch soft-opened on 11 May 2026 and has run 24 hours a day since August: labyrinths, capsules, darkrooms, free drinks on Wednesdays. Cis and trans men, 18+.
- Seven Cruising Bar, Praça da República 141, 2nd floor, Centro. Daily from about 10:00 to 22:00, cheaper before 16:00 (roughly R$35, R$70 after). Strict no-phone policy.
- Taurus, Rua da Lapa 8. Opened in 2022, two floors with darkrooms, cabins, a glory hole and a video room; Thursday or Friday to Monday, until 05:00 on weekend nights. Travel Gay calls it the city's busiest.
- Black Cat, Av. Princesa Isabel 21, Copacabana. A club with DJs downstairs and a large darkroom on the second floor; Thursday to Sunday from 23:00, busy after 2 am.
- K7 Cabines, Rua Teófilo Otoni 164, Centro. Sex shop with cabins, darkroom and glory holes, weekdays about 12:00 to 21:00.
- Cine Rex, Rua Álvaro Alvim 33/37, Cinelândia. One of the last adult cinemas downtown, with a mixed male crowd; daytime hours. Next door, the Sexy Rose shop at No. 37 also has cabins.
- Further out: Show Bar Madureira (Zona Norte) and Into Vibe (Campo Grande). Both serve local crowds, and information about them is thin, so confirm they are open before you go.
- Clubs keep lockers. Leave your passport at the hotel and bring a little cash or Pix.
- Free condoms are usual in clubs and saunas. PrEP and PEP are free in Brazil's public health system (SUS); for PEP, go to a UPA emergency unit within 72 hours.
- Apps: robberies and drugging set up through Grindr-style apps are reported in Rio every year. Meet in a public place first.
- Take an app car to and from Centro at night.

Outdoor spots: what to know
Gay guides still name a few outdoor areas, among them Aterro do Flamengo, the long park along the bay. GayCities rates the Aterro among the most dangerous cruising areas it covers, citing robberies by fake cruisers, little policing and assaults after dark.
