Cruising in Palm Springs isn't like most US cities. The gay resort hotel pools do what dedicated venues handle elsewhere.
The clothing-optional pool scene at Warm Sands properties is how gay men socialize and cruise here, especially in the afternoon. It's an accepted part of what these resorts are for.
Beyond the resort pools, Palm Springs has indoor cruising spots and adult shops for a more explicitly sexual environment. These are open year-round, with the most action during peak season (January through April) and specific event weekends.
The Resort Pool Scene
Clothing-optional Warm Sands resort pools become semi-public social and cruising spaces during the day. Rules vary by property — some are more openly sexual, others more strictly social. But the general idea of men meeting poolside, knowing it might lead somewhere, is standard at most Warm Sands places.
This isn't secret. The resorts market themselves this way; guests choose them knowing it. If you're at a clothing-optional resort and aren't interested in that dynamic, you're still welcome to just use the pool. There's not much social pressure to participate at most properties.

Palm Springs has adult bookstores and shops that carry gear, toys, and accessories for the gay community. Most are downtown or in the commercial areas along East Palm Canyon Drive.

Opened in 2014, this shop is quickly becoming one of Palm Springs' top adult stores. They have swimwear, lingerie, lubricants, cock rings, vibrators, and other sex toys. Staff will explain every item. Not So Innocent also doubles as an HIV testing site.

Outdoor Cruising
Some outdoor cruising happens in the desert parks and recreational areas around Palm Springs, particularly in the San Jacinto foothills above the city. Locals know these spots. Conditions change with the season — summer heat makes midday outdoor activity genuinely dangerous. Early morning and evening hours are when outdoor activity happens, if at all.
The Tahquitz Canyon area and some trail networks above downtown have historically been known for outdoor activity. The mix of hikers versus people there for other reasons varies. Use common sense about location, time of day, and weather.
Safety Notes
Palm Springs is a small city with a large gay population and gay-friendly law enforcement. This makes the overall context safer than in cities where gay cruising is policed more aggressively. Still, standard precautions apply: know where you are, have a plan for getting home, and keep your phone on you.
At indoor venues, follow house rules. At resort pools, respect how different guests use the space. At outdoor locations, be aware of desert heat and wildlife — rattlesnakes are in the desert hills above the city and aren't a joke.
