Perth's gay bars and clubs are small in number but big in character, and almost all of them sit within a few blocks of each other in Northbridge, the inner-city district just north of the CBD. Two venues anchor the scene, with a third across the river in Fremantle.
The Court (corner of Beaufort and James Streets) is Perth's biggest and most beloved LGBTQ+ venue. Behind its heritage-pub frontage sprawls a warren of bars, a large courtyard beer garden and a nightclub, and the crowd builds from relaxed midweek drinks to a full-blown weekend party. Drag is central — regular shows, karaoke, bingo and student nights fill the calendar — and it hosts much of the city's Pride-season programming.
Connections Nightclub on James Street is a piece of living history: opened in 1975, it is the longest-running gay club in the southern hemisphere and a City of Perth heritage-listed site. "Connies" turned 50 in December 2025 and still delivers drag, dance nights and cabaret across its multiple levels. For many visitors it's the first stop for understanding where gay Perth came from.
South-west of the city in Fremantle, The Flaming Galah (Essex Street) opened in 2022 as the port city's first and only dedicated LGBTQ+ bar — a colourful, campy room with drag, karaoke and themed nights, 30 minutes from Perth by train.
Beyond these, Northbridge has plenty of mixed and queer-friendly bars, and the one dedicated gay men's sauna, Perth Steam Works, is a short walk away on William Street. Nightlife peaks Thursday to Saturday and around PrideFEST each November.
