The honest summary: Rennes has two places that cruising guides have listed for years, the Parc du Thabor and the Étangs d'Apigné. Both are public leisure areas used mostly by families, walkers and joggers. We list them because people search for them, not because we recommend them. If you want to meet men legally and in private, Rennes has two gay saunas.

The two listed areas

Parc du Thabor is the city's main public garden, east of the old town by Place Saint-Melaine. It has formal gardens, a rose garden, an orangery and playgrounds, and it is locked at night. Cruising guides still mention it. We have no independent way to tell how active it is today.

Les Étangs d'Apigné are former gravel-pit lakes on the western edge of the city, used for walks, swimming and picnics, with families around all summer. Outdoor cruising guides list the area, but we could not confirm current activity.

We don't publish directions, meeting points or times for either place. That is a deliberate policy for every city on GayOut.

Legal alternatives

Sauna Carré Rouge is men only and has a maze, cabins and a naturist terrace. Sauna California near the station has gay days (Monday, Wednesday, Sunday and weekend afternoons) and mixed sessions at other times. Le Batchi club opens on Friday and Saturday nights. Most men in Rennes meet through the usual apps.

Staying safe

Outdoor spots anywhere attract the occasional thief or troublemaker. Tell someone where you are going, carry little, and leave if something feels off. Free testing, PEP and PrEP are available at the CeGIDD at Pontchaillou hospital and from AIDES on rue Saint-Hélier. If you are a victim of a homophobic attack, SOS Homophobie runs a national helpline, and Iskis can point you to local support.
