Gay Sauna in Valparaíso & Viña del Mar: The Honest 2026 Guide
Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change
Valparaíso is a port city of steep hills and painted houses: old wooden funiculars, the ascensores, creak up the slopes, gulls wheel over the container cranes, every staircase seems to have a mural, and in the evening the whole bay turns pink and then glitters with lights. A few kilometres up the coast, Viña del Mar is the tidier, beachier neighbour, all palm trees, apartment towers, a flower clock and a seafront where porteños and viñamarinos alike go to watch the Pacific. The two cities run into each other, and so does their gay life. For the sauna, the honest picture is simple: there's one men's sauna we could verify, Templo Spa, and it's in Viña del Mar, not Valparaíso. It opens in the afternoon and closes early, so plan it as a late-afternoon steam before dinner rather than a late-night stop.
Legal in one line: Chile decriminalised sex between men in 1999, introduced civil unions in 2015 and has had full marriage equality, including adoption, since 10 March 2022 (Law 21.400); the 2012 Zamudio anti-discrimination law (Law 20.609) covers sexual orientation and gender identity, and trans adults can change their legal name and sex under the Gender Identity Law (Law 21.120, published in 2018 and in force since 27 December 2019). Saunas are legal private venues for adults; sex in public places is not.
Templo Spa: the gay sauna in Viña del Mar
Templo Spa · Calle La Marina 822, Viña del Mar
Templo Spa calls itself "an oasis of well-being and pleasure" and "an exclusive refuge for men", and its website footer describes it plainly as a gay sauna in Viña del Mar. According to its own site, it has:
- a steam room (sauna vapor) and a dry sauna heated with volcanic stones (sauna seco);
- a maze (laberinto) with hidden passages, and other "exclusive zones";
- a cinema area (zona cine) and private relaxation cabins (box de relajación);
- a smoking terrace. Cigarettes and lighters aren't sold, so bring your own.
- Cash and cards: Templo Spa takes cards and transfers as well as cash, but carry some Chilean pesos in small notes for micros and colectivos.
- Timing: it's an afternoon-to-early-evening venue (from 16:00). Reviewers found it crowded at times; we couldn't find reliable information on the busiest days, so ask when you message.
- Apps: dating apps are the main way to meet men in the area. Don't share your location too early.
- Safety: Valparaíso's lower town (the plan) and port area get empty after dark. Take a taxi or ride-hail car at night rather than walking the deserted streets and staircases.
- Health: in June 2026 the Centro Comunitario LGBTIQANB+ at Esmeralda 940, Valparaíso, ran community health days (operativos de salud), and GayOut lists ACCIONGAY Valparaíso. If you might have been exposed to HIV, go to a hospital emergency department (urgencia) at once: post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) has to start within 72 hours.
- Emergencies: Carabineros (police) 133, ambulance 131.
- Marcha por la Diversidad y Disidencias Sexuales de Valparaíso (early September): Valparaíso marches in September to remember the fire at Divine, a gay nightclub in the city, in the early hours of 4 September 1993, which killed 16 people according to the official investigation. The 2026 march took place on 5 September, organised by the Mesa de Diversidades y Disidencias Sexuales de Valparaíso, a coalition of local groups; in 2025 it gathered at Plaza Sotomayor. Watch the Mesa's and ACCIONGAY's social media in August for the 2027 date.
- Viña del Mar Pride march (late June): in 2026 the march, organised by the Mesa de Diversidades y Disidencias Sexuales de Viña del Mar under the slogan "Con Orgullo y Resistencia, Nuestros Derechos no se Negocian", set off on Saturday 27 June at 14:00 from the Reloj de Flores (the flower clock) and finished at Plaza Sucre, with a queer artists' market in the square through the day. The day before, Valparaíso held a Pride festival at the Biblioteca Santiago Severín.
- Porteño: someone from Valparaíso. Viñamarino: someone from Viña del Mar.
- Ascensor: one of Valparaíso's hillside funiculars. Cerro: hill (and neighbourhood). El plan: the flat lower town.
- Toalla: towel. Casillero: locker. Candado: padlock. Chalas: flip-flops (Chilean).
- ¿Cuánto sale la entrada?: how much is entry?
- Luca: 1,000 pesos. Micro: city bus. Colectivo: shared taxi on a fixed route.
- Carrete: a night out. Bacán: great. ¿Cachai?: you know?
- Orgullo: Pride. Marcha: march.
What's included: a towel, a sheet (sabanilla), sandals and a locker with a padlock and key, which you hand back when you leave. You can bring your own soap, shampoo and sandals.
Hours: the website gives Tuesday to Sunday, 16:00 to 21:30, and doesn't mention Monday. An older directory listing (last updated in 2024) has it closed on Mondays and open until 22:00 on Sundays. Reviewers in 2025 noted the late opening and found the Saturday closing time "very early", which fits these hours.
Prices: Templo Spa doesn't publish its prices online, and we couldn't find a recent, reliable figure. Ask on WhatsApp (+56 9 3331 3123, the number on its website) before you go; one reviewer asked which day is cheapest, so it's worth asking about day offers too. It takes cash, debit and credit cards, and bank transfers. Older directories show other phone numbers; use the one on the official site.
House rules: adults only, and nobody under the influence of substances that impair judgement. Alcohol and drugs aren't allowed. Shower before going in, and wear only a towel or underwear inside. The rules ask for courtesy towards everyone whatever their origin, gender identity or sexual orientation, and say that harassment and discrimination aren't tolerated. Sexual contact needs explicit, mutual consent; a "no" must be respected, and you're always free to say no or walk away. Free condoms are provided.
What reviewers say: Google reviews (about 100, averaging 4.0) are mixed. On the plus side: friendly staff, a good crowd (one 2021 reviewer rated the men above Santiago's), busy at times, and short "excellent, I'll be back" notes as recent as June 2026. On the minus side, complaints about cleanliness go back to 2020; a 2021 visitor said the building was freezing apart from the steam room; and a November 2025 reviewer reported no hot water, worn furniture, torn towels and untidy private rooms. The entrance is described as unassuming, so look carefully for the number.
Check before you go. We could confirm the address, hours and facilities on Templo Spa's own website, and reviews show it operating into 2026, but the site carries no news or dates and its prices aren't public. Send a WhatsApp message on the day to check it's open, especially on public holidays, and bring a warm layer in winter (June to August).
Getting there from Valparaíso
Valparaíso and Viña del Mar sit side by side on the same bay. The Metro Valparaíso (Merval) commuter train runs along the coast between the two cities, and buses (micros) and shared taxis (colectivos) run constantly; Uber and other ride-hail apps also operate. Put "La Marina 822, Viña del Mar" into your map app before you set off, as reviewers say the entrance is easy to miss. Because the sauna closes at 21:30, you'll be heading back in the early evening, which is easier and safer than a 3 a.m. trip home. If you stay out later, since October 2025 EFE has run an hourly night bus (N01) along the train line between Valparaíso's Puerto station and Peñablanca, from 23:00 to 06:00; check it's still running before you rely on it.
Outdoor cruising: why we don't list it
GayOut's Valparaíso page lists the Concón dunes as a cruising area. We don't give directions to outdoor spots. In Chile, sexual acts in public can be prosecuted as an offence against public decency, the Concón dune field is a protected natural area, and meeting strangers in dunes, parks or dark areas at night carries a real risk of robbery. For meeting men, the sauna, the bars and dating apps are the safer choices. Meet app dates somewhere public first.
A Valparaíso afternoon and evening
Ride an ascensor up to Cerro Alegre or Cerro Concepción and wander the staircases and murals, then come down for a late lunch of empanadas de mariscos (seafood empanadas) or a chorrillana, the port's famous platter of chips buried under strips of beef, fried onions and eggs, made for sharing. J. Cruz M., an old-school eatery at Condell 1466 near Plaza Victoria, has long claimed to have invented it. Take the train up the coast to Viña for a steam at Templo Spa in the late afternoon, then a walk along the seafront at sunset and a pisco sour before dinner. Valparaíso's nights start late, so there's still time to head back for a drink; GayOut lists Pagano and Máscara among the gay and mixed bars and clubs, so check their social media for what's on.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a gay sauna in Valparaíso?
Not in Valparaíso itself, as far as we could verify. The area's gay sauna is Templo Spa, a men-only sauna at Calle La Marina 822 in neighbouring Viña del Mar, a short train, bus or taxi ride along the coast. It has a steam room, a dry sauna, a maze, a video area and private cabins.
What are Templo Spa's opening hours and prices?
Its website gives Tuesday to Sunday, 16:00 to 21:30, with no Monday hours; an older directory listing says closed on Mondays and open until 22:00 on Sundays. Prices are not published online, so ask by WhatsApp on +56 9 3331 3123 before you go. It takes cash, cards and bank transfers.
What is Templo Spa like inside?
Entry includes a towel, a sheet, sandals and a locker with a padlock. There is a steam room, a dry sauna heated with volcanic stones, a maze, a cinema area, private relaxation cabins and a smoking terrace. Alcohol and drugs are not allowed. Reviews are mixed: some visitors praise the staff and the crowd, while others since 2020 have complained about cleanliness, a cold building in winter and, in November 2025, no hot water.
Is outdoor cruising legal around Valparaíso and Viña del Mar?
No. Sexual acts in public places can be prosecuted in Chile as an offence against public decency, and meeting strangers in dunes, parks or dark areas at night also carries a real risk of robbery. We don't list outdoor spots; use the sauna, the bars or dating apps instead.
When is Pride in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar?
