Where to stay in Puno

Puno has no gay hotel, and none of the hotels below markets itself to gay travellers. They are mainstream hotels that we checked in October 2026, and we know of none that turns away same-sex couples. Ask for "una cama matrimonial" (a double bed) when you book; small family places sometimes assume two men want twin beds.

In the centre

Staying near the Plaza de Armas puts you on the pedestrian Jirón Lima, where most restaurants and bars are. Hotel Hacienda Puno is on the plaza itself (Jr. Deustua 297). Tierra Viva Puno Plaza is half a block away on Jr. Grau, and Casa Andina Standard is a couple of blocks off on Jr. Independencia. For less money, Tambo Real Titikaka is a plain budget hotel a few blocks west, and Casa Panqarani is a small family-run B&B about ten minutes' walk south on Jr. Arequipa.

On the lakeshore

Along Av. Sesquicentenario, 2.5 to 5 km north-east of the centre, the bigger hotels look straight onto Lake Titicaca: Sonesta Posadas del Inca, Casa Andina Premium and, on Isla Esteves, GHL Hotel Lago Titicaca, the former Libertador and the most upmarket stay in town. You'll need taxis to reach the plaza. Mirador del Titikaka is a simpler hillside hotel north of town with lake views.

On the lake

Uros Titicaca Lodge is a family-run lodge on one of the floating Uros reed islands, reached by boat from Puno port. Rooms are basic and nights are very cold. Homestays on Amantaní and Taquile are run by traditional families; couples there usually keep things private.

Tips

Puno sits at 3,827 m and nights drop below freezing for much of the year, so check that your room has heating. Rooms fill up and prices jump during the Candelaria festival in early February. See our Puno guide for the rest.
