Last verified: October 2026. Denver has no men-only hotel and no clothing-optional guesthouse. As far as we can tell, it has exactly one gay-owned place to sleep: Capitol Hill Mansion, an eight-room B&B on Pennsylvania Street run by its owner. It was still taking guests and getting reviews in September 2026. Highland Park Guest House, the other name that used to appear on gay travel lists, is reported closed as a guesthouse. Everything else is mainstream, and the real problem is location. The gay bars are on East Colfax Avenue in Capitol Hill, a residential district with almost no hotels. The hotel rooms are downtown and around Union Station, 20 to 40 minutes away on foot. This guide covers where to sleep for the Colfax bars and for Tracks in RiNo, real walking times from our listings, the 2026 tax and fee rules, Pride 2027 (moving back to Civic Center Park) and how to get home after closing time.

Where to sleep, in real minutes

The walkable gay zone is a stretch of East Colfax Avenue from about Pennsylvania Street east to Franklin Street, roughly 1 km long. Going west to east, it has Buddies at 504, Champagne Tiger at 601, X Bar at 629 and Charlie's at 900 (with Needz across the road at 901). Then come The Center on Colfax at 1301 and Tight End at 1501. Just off Colfax are Hamburger Mary's on East 17th Avenue and Wild Tulips, a new sapphic bar at 13th and Clarkson that soft-opened on 28 October 2026. #VYBE is a few blocks south-west at 1027 North Broadway.

The rest of the scene is spread out, which is why Denver is a rideshare city after dark. Tracks, the big club, is 3 km north in RiNo. The leather bar Trade and the community bar Town Hall Collaborative are next to each other on Santa Fe Drive, 22–24 min from Ember Hostel. Four more bars are too far to walk to from any hotel here:

    • the Denver Eagle, which moved in 2022 to 5110 West Colfax near the Lakewood line
    • R&R, at 4958 East Colfax in Park Hill
    • Li'l Devils, on South Broadway in Baker
    • El Potrero, the Latin club out in Glendale

Denver is flat enough that the walking times hold up. Capitol Hill does rise gently east of Broadway, though, and at 1,609 m the walk home after four drinks feels longer than it is.

Capitol Hill: the only place you can walk to the bars

Sleep here if the trip is about the Colfax bars. The catch is that there's very little to book. The only property in our listings here is Ember Hostel, a restored mansion at 857 North Grant Street, near 9th Avenue. From there it's 6–8 min to #VYBE, 11–13 min to the middle of the scene by our listings and 17–19 min to Buddies on Colfax. The yard has a 12-person hot tub and a fire pit, which is where evenings start. It rates 4.6 on Google from about 765 reviews, but several 2026 TripAdvisor reviews are scathing, so read the latest ones before you commit. Also note that non-refundable rates can be charged at any time before you arrive.

Capitol Hill Mansion, at 1207 Pennsylvania Street (12th Avenue), is the better-placed of the two. It's 8–10 min to Buddies, 12–14 min to Charlie's and about 19 min to Tight End. It is not in our listings, so book it direct. For everyone else, short-term rentals fill the gap, and there are plenty of Capitol Hill and Cheesman Park apartments listed. Denver licenses short-term rentals, so check that the listing shows a licence number.

At 3 am, the side streets (Pennsylvania, Pearl, Grant, Logan) are residential, lined with trees and dark. Colfax itself is lit and has traffic all night. The stretch from Civic Center Park east to Logan is where you see the most street disorder late at night. Walk with someone or take the 3-minute ride.

Downtown and the theatre district: the practical default

Most visitors end up here, and it works if you accept taking a ride home. Kimpton Hotel Monaco at 1717 Champa Street is the closest of the decent downtown hotels to Colfax. It's 21–23 min to Buddies and 11–13 min to 16th and Broadway, where the 2026 PrideFest ended. The hotel has its own Pride page and the usual Kimpton evening wine hour. The Curtis at 1405 Curtis Street (24–26 min to Buddies) is a DoubleTree with pop-culture theming. It has more than 4,000 reviews, so there are few surprises. Hotel Teatro at 1100 14th Street (26–28 min) is the quietest of the three and the best for a show night. It's in the old Denver Tramway building, across from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and about 5 min from the Arapahoe end of 16th Street.

At 3 am, downtown empties quickly and the 16th Street corridor can feel deserted. The walk back from Colfax down 17th Avenue or 16th Street is lit, but most people take a short ride rather than walk 25 minutes. Big conventions at the Colorado Convention Center push downtown rates up, so check the convention calendar if your dates are flexible.

Union Station and LoDo: arrive by train, leave by car

The Crawford is inside Union Station at 1701 Wynkoop Street, on the upper floors of the 1914 station, and the airport train stops downstairs. The Oxford Hotel at 1600 17th Street dates from 1891, which makes it Denver's oldest operating hotel, and has the 1933 Cruise Room bar. Hotel Indigo at 1801 Wewatta Street is the IHG option behind the station. All three are 33–39 min on foot from Buddies and 44–47 min from Tracks, so expect to spend a fair amount on rides. On game nights LoDo is busy with sports fans and straight bar crowds. Blake and Market streets are noisy at closing time, and the station hall has bars that stay open late.

RiNo: for Tracks and nothing else gay

Catbird at 3770 Walnut Street is 4–6 min from Tracks at 3500 Walnut. Rooms are apartment-style with kitchens. The 38th & Blake station on the airport train line is a short walk away, so you can come straight from the airport. Colfax is about 55 min away on foot, which in practice means a 10 to 15 minute ride. At closing, Walnut Street fills with people waiting for rides and surge pricing peaks. Being able to walk back to Catbird is the main advantage.

    Out by the highways

Motel 6 Downtown is at 3050 West 49th Avenue by the I-70 and I-25 interchange. That's several kilometres north of downtown and more than an hour on foot from Tracks. Super 8 Stapleton at 7201 East 36th Avenue is nearer the airport. It's also the closest hotel in our listings to R&R, at about 55 min on foot. Both only make sense with a car, for the rodeo or a cheap night before an early flight.

    Gay-owned, men-only and clothing-optional

Capitol Hill Mansion Bed & Breakfast Inn, 1207 Pennsylvania Street, is the only gay-owned stay we could confirm in 2026. Purple Roofs lists it as a gay-owned inn with eight rooms, and the same owner has been answering reviews for years. TripAdvisor reviews from February to September 2026 show it running normally, with a full breakfast and an evening wine hour on the porch. It is not men-only: the listing says children are welcome, and guests are a mix. A 2026 snapshot from a booking site showed rooms at about US$250–370 a night, which is a splurge for Denver, so confirm before booking. It is not in our listings, so book through its own site or a booking site.

Highland Park Guest House, 3166 Speer Boulevard in West Highland, was listed on GayCities as LGBTQ+-owned, and GayCities now marks it closed. A single guest suite with the same name still appears on Airbnb and Vrbo, with no children or pets. Treat it as a private rental rather than a guesthouse, and confirm it's still live before you plan around it.

Men-only, clothing-optional, day passes: none in Denver in 2026. There is no gay resort, no men-only guesthouse and no hotel pool scene that works as a gay space. Gay visitors stay in three places: the downtown boutiques (the Kimpton Monaco is the one with its own Pride page), Capitol Hill short-term rentals and Ember Hostel. Older guides may list The Lumber Baron Inn in Highland as gay-friendly, but we found nothing to confirm it is gay-owned today.

Colorado law bans discrimination in hotels and other public accommodation based on sexual orientation and gender identity. A same-sex couple asking for one bed will get it without fuss at any hotel in this guide.

    Booking rules that bite

    • Hotel tax: Denver's Lodger's Tax is 10.75% of the room charge. Hotels with 50 or more rooms add a 1% Tourism Improvement District charge, making 11.75%. State, RTD and cultural-district sales taxes (2.9%, 1% and 0.1%) come on top. Expect about 14.75% in total at small places and about 15.75% at most downtown hotels.
    • Fees in the headline price: since 1 January 2026, Colorado has banned advertising a nightly rate that leaves out mandatory resort or amenity fees. Taxes are exempt from the rule. So the price you see should include any "urban fee" but not the roughly 15% in tax. If a mandatory fee only shows up at the front desk, push back.
    • Visitors and ID: Denver hotels don't charge fees for bringing someone back. The person who booked shows photo ID and a card at check-in. A guest you bring back isn't registered and isn't asked for ID at mainstream hotels. Hostels are different: assume non-guests can't go into the dorms at Ember, and ask about visitors to private rooms. At any small property, the simple fix is to book for 2 guests from the start.
    • Deposits: hotels put a hold on your card for extras at check-in. The amount varies by hotel, so check if you're paying with a debit card.
    • Smoking and cannabis: assume every hotel here is non-smoking, and that includes cannabis. Most charge a cleaning fee if a room smells of smoke. The amount varies, so check the house rules. Edibles are the discreet option.
    • Short-term rentals: Denver licenses them and charges the same 10.75% Lodger's Tax. Check the licence number on the listing.
    • Pride and conventions: the B&B and downtown boutiques use minimum stays and non-refundable rates over Pride weekend. Read the cancellation terms before you pay.

The gay calendar and where to book for it

Denver's big weekends all fall in early summer. As of October 2026, organisers had not confirmed any 2027 dates.

CinemaQ Film Festival

Denver Film's LGBTQ+ festival at the Sie FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax. The 2026 festival ran 29 to 31 May. 2027 dates are TBA (expected around 28 to 30 May). The cinema is at the east end of the Colfax strip, about 34 min on foot from Capitol Hill Mansion or a few stops on the 15 bus. Book in Capitol Hill or downtown. This weekend doesn't move hotel prices much.

Black Pride Colorado

A week of events at venues across the city. The 2026 week ran 8 to 15 June. 2027 dates are TBA (expected around 7 to 14 June). Because events move around, a downtown base with good transport is the safe choice.

Denver Pride and Tracks Pride Weekend

Denver Pride is the big one. It's the main fundraiser for The Center on Colfax, and attendance is put at around 550,000. Civic Center Park was under construction in 2026, so PrideFest was cut to one day, Sunday 28 June, along 16th Street from Arapahoe to Broadway. The parade ran from Franklin Street and East 17th Avenue to Lincoln and 17th. PrideFest is planned to return to the renovated Civic Center Park, at Colfax and Broadway, in 2027. Dates are TBA. The usual slot is the last full weekend of June (26 to 27 June 2027), but wait for The Center on Colfax to confirm before paying non-refundable rates.

Tracks runs its own ticketed Pride Weekend at the club and the ReelWorks space next door. In 2026 it ran 25 to 27 June. 2027 dates are TBA.

Where to book: if PrideFest is back at Civic Center Park, the closest beds are Ember Hostel (a short walk) and Capitol Hill Mansion (about 15 min). The parade route along 17th Avenue also runs through Capitol Hill. The Kimpton Monaco, The Curtis and Hotel Teatro are 10 to 20 minutes from the park. If your weekend is mostly about Tracks, book Catbird. Downtown rooms for Pride weekend sell out months ahead, so book by March. Book the B&B as soon as dates are confirmed.

Rocky Mountain Regional Rodeo

The Colorado Gay Rodeo Association's rodeo, billed as America's longest-running gay rodeo, is held at grounds about 30 minutes from downtown. The 2026 rodeo ran 24 to 26 July. 2027 dates are TBA (expected around 23 to 25 July). You'll need a car or a lot of rides. Charlie's on Colfax is the association's home bar, so Capitol Hill Mansion plus a rental car is the neat answer.

Getting back at 3 am

Airport: the airport train (RTD's A Line) costs US$10 each way and takes about 37 minutes from Denver International to Union Station. It also stops at 38th & Blake for RiNo. It doesn't run 24 hours: trains start early in the morning and stop after midnight, so check the current RTD timetable if you land late. From Union Station to Capitol Hill, take a rideshare (about 10 minutes) or the bus. A rideshare from the airport to downtown costs about US$35–45 normally, more during surge pricing.

Colfax buses: since 27 September 2026, Routes 15 and 15L have run in bus-only lanes down the middle of East Colfax between Broadway and Colorado Boulevard. Together they run about 14 buses an hour in the daytime. Route 15 has long been one of the few RTD routes that runs through the night. Check overnight frequency on the current timetable before you rely on it.

Rail: downtown light rail is being rebuilt. The D Line has been gone since June 2026 and other lines have changed. Don't plan a late night around light rail without checking first.

Rideshare: Uber and Lyft both work well, and they're how almost everyone gets between Colfax, Santa Fe Drive, RiNo and the hotels. Colfax to downtown or to Tracks is a short, usually cheap ride, but surge pricing at closing time (2 am) can double it. At Tracks, walk a block or two along Walnut before calling a car, to get away from the crowd at the pickup point.

Walking: the Capitol Hill side streets are fine in pairs but dark in places. Late at night, move briskly along Colfax around Broadway and Civic Center. Downtown and 16th Street are quiet after closing. Away from Walnut and Larimer, RiNo quickly turns industrial and empty.

Health, safety and the law

Clinics: the Denver Sexual Health Clinic is at 660 North Bannock Street, Pavilion L, 2nd floor, on the Denver Health campus (phone 303-602-3540). It offers STI and HIV testing, PrEP and doxy-PEP. It's open weekdays, so call first. For PEP outside clinic hours, go to an emergency department within 72 hours of exposure. The Denver Health emergency department is on the same campus. Colorado Health Network at 6260 East Colfax offers testing and help getting PrEP. Colorado law lets pharmacists prescribe PrEP and PEP, but not every pharmacy does, so ring ahead. For anything else, ask at The Center on Colfax, 1301 East Colfax.

App dates: we found no reports in 2025–2026 local news of a pattern of dating-app robberies targeting gay men in Denver. That doesn't mean there have been none. Take the usual steps: video-chat first, meet in a bar before going to the hotel, tell a friend the address, and keep valuables in the room safe.

Cannabis: legal from age 21, bought from licensed stores. Using it in public is illegal (a petty offence, usually a fine of about US$100). Using it in a hotel room or on the balcony is also off-limits if the hotel says no, and they all do. Licensed lounges where you can consume legally exist, so ask at the dispensary.

Psilocybin and other drugs: Colorado has decriminalised possessing and using psilocybin mushrooms for adults, and licensed healing centres operate, but selling them is still illegal. Other chemsex drugs (meth, GHB, ketamine) are crimes under state and federal law, and hotels will evict you and bill you for damage.

The law and the room: same-sex marriage, sex and hotel stays are fully legal. Colorado's anti-discrimination law covers sexual orientation and gender identity in hotels. Cheesman Park has a long history as a gay meeting place, but public sex is illegal. Stay in Capitol Hill for the history, not for that.

Altitude: at 1,609 m, alcohol hits harder and you dehydrate quickly. On your first night, drink water between rounds.

Three picks

Budget: Ember Hostel. The only bed in our listings inside Capitol Hill: 6–8 min from #VYBE, under 20 min from the Colfax strip, and a hot tub to end the night in. Book a private room and read the latest reviews first.

Mid-range: Kimpton Hotel Monaco. The downtown hotel closest to Colfax (21–23 min to Buddies). Its brand, IHG, has long had LGBTQ-inclusive policies, and the hotel has its own Pride page. A good compromise when Capitol Hill is full.

Splurge: The Crawford. Rooms inside the 1914 Union Station, with the airport train and the Terminal Bar downstairs. You'll need a ride to every gay bar. If you'd rather spend similar money on being close to the bars, Capitol Hill Mansion (gay-owned, 8–10 min from Buddies) is the alternative.

TBA as of October 2026. It's usually the last full weekend of June. After a year on 16th Street, PrideFest is planned to return to Civic Center Park in 2027.

Is there a gay beach or pool scene in Denver?

There's no beach and no gay hotel pool scene. In summer, social life happens on bar patios. X Bar's big patio on Colfax fills up from mid-afternoon in good weather.
