Denver Pride
About This Event
Denver Pride is the biggest annual fundraiser for The Center on Colfax, the city's LGBTQ+ community center, and that explains most of how it is run. It goes back to June 1974, when a small Gay Pride Week gathering met in Cheesman Park. For decades after that the festival sat in Civic Center Park, across from the Capitol. The Center says more than 500,000 people take part in Denver Pride each year. That is the organizers' own estimate, and it covers a month of events, not one street on one afternoon.
The 2026 edition changed shape. Construction in Civic Center Park pushed PrideFest onto 16th Street between Arapahoe Street and Broadway, and the old two-day festival became a single free day on Sunday. The parade stepped off at 9:30am at 17th Avenue and Franklin Street and ended at 17th and Lincoln, a short walk from the festival. The Pride 5K ran the day before from Cheesman Park, and The Center spread smaller events across all of June. The Center's CEO said they don't know when the park construction will finish, so don't assume Civic Center Park for 2027.
Pride weekend usually falls on the last full weekend of June. Downtown hotels near 16th Street go first. Denver sits at about 1,600 metres, so the June sun hits harder than you expect: bring water and sunscreen.
Money is the background story. In 2025 The Center said funding for the parade was down 62% on the year before, roughly $230,000 short, as companies cut diversity budgets. Axios found Nissan, Target, Verizon and Walmart missing from the sponsor list, while Molson Coors stayed. The free one-day format in 2026 was partly a cost decision, with The Center saying the savings go to year-round services. The last edition ran 27 to 28 June 2026, with PrideFest on the Sunday. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
