Last verified: November 2026. The honest summary: Santiago has one real gay street, Bombero Núñez in Barrio Bellavista, plus a club that has run since 1979 ten minutes east and a handful of men's saunas downtown. The scene is smaller and more local than Buenos Aires or São Paulo, it lives on Friday and Saturday nights, and a few names that older guides still push have closed. Chile's laws are among the strongest in Latin America; the current government is less friendly than the last one, but nothing has changed for adult visitors.

Where the scene is

Bellavista, Recoleta side: Bombero Núñez

Barrio Bellavista sits north of the Mapocho river, under Cerro San Cristóbal. Calle Pío Nono, the main street, is mainstream bars and students. The gay strip is one block west, on the Recoleta side: Bombero Núñez and the cross street Antonia López de Bello. On a few hundred metres you have the drag bars Farinelli (No. 68), Infierno Divas (No. 125) and Moulin (No. 130), the men-only fetish bar Bar 105 (No. 105), Ex Femme (No. 169) and Contramano (No. 388). Around the corner on Antonia López de Bello are Club Soda, Illuminati and the men-only cruising bar TOM House; on Santa Filomena, Hangar and Zotano. Sauna 282 is on Calle Bellavista, by the river.

Fundación Iguales, one of the two groups behind the June march, lists its office on Bombero Núñez too.

Providencia: Fausto and the east

Fausto opened on 22 August 1979 and is still going, which makes it the city's oldest gay club. It's on Avenida Santa María 0832, on the Providencia bank, about ten minutes' walk east of Bombero Núñez, not on the strip itself as some guides say. Further east, Foxy Bar near Los Leones metro is a small bar that reviewers call a bear bar; recent information on it is thin.

Lastarria and Barrio Italia

Lastarria, across the river from Bellavista, is the gallery-and-restaurant quarter and a good, central place to stay. It's also home to Sirenas Bar on Calle Rosal, a sapphic and queer bar run by women. Barrio Italia, south of Providencia, has design shops and cafés and La Prohibida, a resto-bar with a garden and weekly drag. Chueca Bar, Barrio Italia's lesbian bar, closed in June 2026 (The Clinic and El Mostrador covered the farewell).

Santiago Centro and further out

Downtown has the two other men's saunas, Il Palatino in Barrio Brasil and CH33 Club Spa, an old Turkish bath near Estación Central, plus the HIV-testing centres of ACCIONGAY and AHF Chile. Two clubs sit well outside the centre: Club Berlín on Avenida Vicuña Mackenna, and Nueva Cero, a gay disco in San Miguel that says it has been open for 27 years. Take a taxi to both.

How a night works

Nothing much happens before 23:00. People eat late, drink at a restobar on the strip, and move to Club Soda, Fausto or Hangar after 01:00. Drag shows are the local speciality: Farinelli, Infierno Divas, Moulin and La Prohibida all build their nights around them, and the humour is in fast Chilean Spanish. Weeknights are quiet; on Thursdays a few terraces run drink deals. Cover charges are usually paid at the door or through Passline, Ticketplus or PuntoTicket for bigger parties.

Big one-off parties often use general event spaces rather than gay venues, for example Spot Freedom on Avenida Recoleta. Check the organisers' Instagram accounts the week you're there.

Saunas and cruising

There are three men's saunas we could confirm: Sauna 282 in Bellavista (four floors; CLP 17,000 entry in October 2026), Il Palatino in Barrio Brasil and CH33 near Estación Central. Bar 105 and TOM House are the indoor cruising options on the strip. The city's porn cinemas are gone: Cine Nilo and Cine Mayo closed by municipal order in May 2019. The details are in our saunas guide and cruising guide.

Outdoors, be careful. In August 2026 the park authority for Cerro San Cristóbal, the Carabineros and Providencia's municipal guards announced criminal complaints for public indecency, backed by cameras, drones and thermal imaging. Public sex is an offence under Chilean law, so stick to the indoor venues.

Closed or changed: gone but still Googled

    • Bunker (Espacio Bunker), Bombero Núñez 159: Google lists it as permanently closed and Travel Gay marks it closed. It had a stage fire in October 2022.
    • Station RestoBar, Antonia López de Bello 64: Google lists it as permanently closed.
    • Chueca Bar, Barrio Italia: closed in June 2026.
    • Burdel and Sabor a Mí: Google shows both as temporarily closed.
    • Bar Loreto, Club Divino, Grizzly Bar and Lemon Lab: closed. Limón on Dardignac stopped being a gay venue in 2019.
    • Toby on Nueva Providencia is a bachelorette and strip club, not a gay bar.
    • Sauna Pompeya, Sauna Greco and Oasis Spa Club: we couldn't find any source outside old directory copy calling them gay saunas, so we've removed them.

    Pride and events

Santiago has two marches. The Marcha del Orgullo, organised by Movilh and Fundación Iguales, runs on a Saturday in late June from Plaza Baquedano along the Alameda; in 2026 it was on 27 June and the organisers counted more than 100,000 people (2025: 21 June). The 2027 date had not been announced at the time of writing. Movilh's second march, the Santiago Parade, Marcha por la Igualdad, is on Saturday 14 November 2026 from Plaza Baquedano; the 2025 edition drew a reported 80,000 people.

The AMOR LGBT+ International Film Festival runs its ninth edition from 24 to 29 November 2026, in person in Parque Bustamante and online. Movilh's own film week, Cine Movilh, ran in October 2026 at its centre at Coquimbo 1410.

    Practical tips

    • Getting in from the airport: Centropuerto buses run from SCL to Los Héroes metro for about CLP 1,800 one way (CLP 3,200 return); Turbus goes to the Alameda and Pajaritos terminals. A taxi or app ride takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.
    • Getting home: the metro runs until about 23:00–23:40, so after the clubs you'll need a taxi or Uber.
    • Bellavista at night: there were robberies on Pío Nono in 2025, and police added cameras and a weekend-night post with the two councils. Keep your phone in your pocket on the street and get rides from the door.
    • Dating apps: Chilean police and Movilh have warned about robberies set up through dating apps. Meet in a bar first.
    • Health: free rapid HIV tests are available at public health centres (CESFAM), at ACCIONGAY and at AHF Chile. For PEP, go to a hospital emergency department within 72 hours.

    The political backdrop

José Antonio Kast's government took office on 11 March 2026. Since then, according to LGBTQ+ groups, the PAIG support programme for trans young people has lost its funding, the schools' gender-identity circular was repealed in April 2026, and Chile didn't sign the OAS declaration on LGBTIQ rights for the first time in 15 years. None of this changes marriage, civil unions or the anti-discrimination law. Movilh's March 2026 report counted 3,620 discrimination cases in 2025, the highest in its 24 years of records, and 39.6% of them involved trans people.
