Gay Cruising in Goiânia: The Honest 2026 Guide

Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change

In the dry months, Goiânia turns gold and dusty, the ipê trees burst into pink and yellow over the wide planned avenues, and sertanejo drifts out of open car windows. Someone is always selling pamonha, the warm corn parcels steamed in their own husks, and someone else is warning a visitor never to bite into a pequi. The city is big, prosperous and fairly low-key about its gay life, and its cruising scene matches: it happens almost entirely behind the doors of a handful of men's saunas in Setor Central and Setor Sul. They're old-fashioned, inexpensive and uneven in upkeep, and recent reviews swing between "clean and friendly" and "needs a renovation". Here's what we could confirm for 2026.

Legal in one line: Brazil has had marriage equality since 2013, and homophobia has been punishable as a crime of racism since 2019. Sex in a public place is a different matter: ato obsceno (Article 233 of the Penal Code) can bring three months to a year in prison or a fine. That's why this guide sends you indoors.

Setor Central: the two classic saunas

Goiânia's two long-running saunas sit a short ride apart in Setor Central, the planned Art Deco core around Praça Cívica. Both are for men, both have a dark room and cabins, and both have a loyal, mostly older local crowd. Arrive and leave by Uber or 99 at night.

Thermas Botafogo · Alameda Botafogo 42, Setor Central

Widely described, including by Spartacus, as the biggest sauna in the city: dry sauna and steam room, a full bar with a food menu, massage, private cabins, a labyrinth, a dark room and even a small gym room. The company behind it has been registered at this address since 1996, according to Brazil's federal business register. Spartacus lists it as open Monday to Friday 14:00–23:00, Saturday 13:00–23:00 and Sunday 13:00–22:00; a 2025 visitor paid R$45. Reviews praise polite, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere, but also report slow reception and bar service, a dry sauna that didn't heat properly, and in June 2026 dirty towels in a locker. One visitor in 2024 found it closed during listed hours, so phone (62) 3941-2062 before a special trip.

Sauna Très Chic · Rua 21, 71, Setor Central (opposite Banana Shopping)

A two-storey house: downstairs a bar, TV lounge, lockers, showers and the steam and dry saunas; upstairs a video room, smoking area, dark room and private cabins. Spartacus lists it as open 14:00–22:00, and a visitor in August 2025 paid R$45 entry. Fans call it clean, spacious and well run, with a properly hot steam room and fair bar prices, although one visitor found R$10 for a can of beer steep, and condoms and lube are sold, not given. Be aware that many reviews from late 2025 into early 2026 describe renovation work, dark areas and some flooding, and one visitor found it unfit to use; others in the same months found it open and working normally. Call (62) 3212-0573 to check the state of play.

Setor Sul: Acqua Sul

Sauna Acqua Sul · entrance via Praça Wilton Valente Chaves, Setor Sul

The best reviewed of the four: visitors from late 2025 and early 2026 describe hot and cold pools, a steam room, cabins, a bar with good service and spotless bathrooms, and call it "great for dating and meeting cool people". It's smaller than the Centro saunas, and one reviewer says there's no dry sauna, only steam. Others mention free condoms and lube, warm beer on one visit, a smelly changing room on another, and parts of the space under renovation in November 2025. We found no published prices or hours, so message or call (62) 99702-5474 first.

Setor Oeste: Sauna Tamandaré (check first)

Sauna Tamandaré · Rua 9, 880, Setor Oeste

A sauna with large dry and steam rooms that a January 2026 visitor found "working perfectly", and a mostly older crowd. Reviews are very mixed: several between 2024 and April 2026 mention neglect and bad smells, one from 2023 says it is "not for the gay public", and a 2024 visitor paid R$50. There's no published phone, website or hours. Treat it as a back-up, not a destination.

Changed or unconfirmed: the Cine Astor, a 1979 street cinema in Centro that became an adult cinema in the 2000s, was still showing adult films in November 2023, when its owner won preliminary selection for state culture funding to turn it back into a family cinema. We couldn't confirm what it is today, so don't count on it. A GayOut listing for a "Sauna Muscle" in Goiânia also couldn't be matched to any current venue.

Why there's no outdoor list

GayOut doesn't send you to parks or public toilets in Goiânia, on purpose. Our own listing for Parque Botafogo in Setor Central reflects a long reputation for cruising after dark. But sex in a public place is a crime in Brazil, and robbery after anonymous night-time hookups is a known risk in Brazilian city centres. Thermas Botafogo is less than 100 metres away: same neighbourhood, a locker for your phone and a door that locks.

Practical tips

    • Getting around: use Uber or 99 door to door, especially at night. Order the car from inside the venue and step out when it arrives.
    • Numbered streets: Goiânia's streets are mostly numbers, and the same number repeats in different districts: there's a Rua 9 in Setor Oeste and another in Centro. Always give the driver the setor as well as the street.
    • Paying: cards are widely accepted. Pix, Brazil's instant payment, is everywhere, but it needs a Brazilian bank account and CPF number, so carry a card and some cash in small notes.
    • Garotos and towels: as in most Brazilian saunas, garotos de programa (male escorts) may be working, and that's an accepted part of the culture. Some houses use towel colours to tell clients and garotos apart; ask at the desk. A smile and "não, obrigado" is all you need if you're not interested.
    • Locker and phone: leave valuables at the hotel; lock your phone in the locker, not the cabin. Bring your own condoms and lube.
    • Apps: Hornet is big in Brazil, often bigger with locals than Grindr, so install both. Meet in a bar first, and be wary of anyone who rushes to change venue or asks for a Pix.
    • Before and after: for a drink first, GayOut lists Babylon Liberty Pub on Rua 7 in Setor Central and Roxy on Rua 87 in Setor Sul. See all Goiânia gay bars. A good goiano evening: an ice-cold beer in Setor Sul, a long sweat in the steam room at Acqua Sul or Thermas Botafogo, then a warm pamonha before bed.

    Pride, health and local flavour

Pride: the Parada do Orgulho LGBTQIA+ de Goiânia is held in September. The 31st edition was on Sunday 13 September 2026, under the theme "Nada sobre nós sem nós" ("Nothing about us without us"), gathering at Praça Cívica from midday with 20 DJs and trios elétricos, and marching from 17:00 along Avenidas Araguaia, Paranaíba and Tocantins. It's organised by Parada-GO, and services on the day included free HIV and syphilis rapid tests. The 2027 date hadn't been confirmed when we checked. In June, the free Esquenta LGBT+ at Praça Universitária (its 44th edition was on 28 June 2026) warms things up.

Health: Brazil's public health system, the SUS, offers free HIV testing, PrEP and PEP. If a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours: seven of Goiânia's 24-hour UPA and CAIS emergency units provided it as of 2024, as does the state tropical diseases hospital (HDT). For PrEP, walk in on weekdays at the Centro de Saúde Cidade Jardim (07:00–18:00) or CAIS Jardim Novo Mundo (13:00–18:00); no appointment is needed.

The goiano table: after the sauna, do as locals do and find a pamonharia for a pamonha (sweet, or savoury with cheese) and a coffee, or order rice with pequi, the cerrado fruit with a smell you'll either love or hate. Scrape the flesh off with your teeth gently: the stone underneath is covered in fine spines.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a gay sauna in Goiânia?

Yes. The two long-running ones are in Setor Central: Thermas Botafogo at Alameda Botafogo 42, widely described as the biggest in the city, and Très Chic at Rua 21, 71, opposite Banana Shopping. Acqua Sul in Setor Sul, with a pool and steam room, gets the warmest recent reviews. Call before you go, as renovations and changing hours are common.

How much does a gay sauna cost in Goiânia?

Visitors in 2025 reported paying about R$45 at both Thermas Botafogo and Très Chic. Older guidebook prices of R$25 are out of date. Drinks are extra (one visitor paid R$10 for a can of beer), and some places sell condoms and lube rather than giving them away, so bring your own.

Is Parque Botafogo a safe place for cruising?

GayOut doesn't recommend it. The park has a long reputation for cruising after dark, but sex in a public place is a crime in Brazil (ato obsceno, Article 233 of the Penal Code), and robbery after anonymous night-time hookups is a known risk in Brazilian city centres. Thermas Botafogo is less than 100 metres away and is the safer choice.

Where can I get PEP or PrEP in Goiânia?

Both are free on Brazil's public health system, the SUS. PEP must start within 72 hours and is offered at 24-hour UPA and CAIS emergency units. PrEP is available without an appointment at the Centro de Saúde Cidade Jardim and CAIS Jardim Novo Mundo, and at the HDT state hospital.

When is Goiânia Pride?

The Parada do Orgulho LGBTQIA+ de Goiânia is held in September. The 31st edition was on Sunday 13 September 2026, gathering at Praça Cívica from midday, with the march leaving at 17:00 along Avenidas Araguaia, Paranaíba and Tocantins. It is organised by Parada-GO.
