About This Event
Paraguay's main LGBTQ+ march, the Marcha por los derechos de las personas TLGBI+, is organized by the Coalición TLGBI+ del Paraguay, a group of civil organizations and independent artists. It's held around September 30, marking the anniversary of the 'Carta de un Amoral', a letter published in 1959 after the murder of radio announcer Bernardo Aranda sparked a wave of persecution against gay men in Asunción.
The march is a protest, not a party. It starts at the Escalinata de Antequera in the late afternoon, winding through the centre to Plaza de la Democracia, where it wraps up with an arts festival. The focus is on two key demands: a gender identity law and a law against all forms of discrimination - both of which Paraguay still lacks.
There's another Pride march in June, run by Repar+, a network of LGBTQ+ artists. Their 2026 march, on June 27, followed a similar route, under the slogan 'Ni silencio, ni retroceso' ('Neither silence nor going backwards').
The 22nd TLGBI+ march took place in late September 2025. As of now, there's no confirmed date for 2026, and 2027's date hasn't been announced yet.
