Where to Stay in Canberra
Canberra has no gay hotel or guesthouse. Every hotel on this page is a mainstream property, chosen for location and ratings. Same-sex couples won't have any trouble checking in anywhere in the ACT.
Civic: walk to the bars
If you want to walk to ChiChiz and Smith's Alternative, stay in Civic. QT Canberra on Marcus Clarke Street is a design hotel with its own bar (Google 4.0). Quest Canberra City Walk has apartments with kitchens opposite the Canberra Centre (4.2). Crowne Plaza on Binara Street is next to Glebe Park, where Pride Fair Day is held.
South of the lake
The Hyatt Hotel Canberra is the 1924 Hotel Canberra building on Commonwealth Avenue, between the lake and Parliament House (4.4). Hotel Kurrajong is a 1926 heritage hotel in Barton (4.2). East Hotel in Kingston is an independent hotel near the Foreshore with loan bikes (4.6). Rydges Canberra in Forrest is a cheaper chain option.
Something different
Jamala Wildlife Lodge at the National Zoo has rooms that look into animal enclosures; it's expensive and books out. Quality Hotel Dickson in the inner north and Alivio Tourist Park in O'Connor are budget options.
During SpringOUT (23 October to 1 December 2026) Civic hotels fill up around Fair Day weekend, so book early. Last verified: October 2026.
