Victoria Pride
About This Event
Victoria Pride is the island’s main celebration, organized by the volunteer-run Victoria Pride Society. The highlight is a Sunday in early to mid-July: a morning parade through downtown, followed by a free festival at MacDonald Park in James Bay. The history is modest. The society notes the first parade, held on 25 June 1994, operated under a permit that restricted marchers to the sidewalk.
The parade kicks off around 11am near Johnson and Government streets. It takes roughly 90 minutes to reach the park. The festival continues into the early evening, packing in 130-plus vendors, a food court, a regular bar, a sober bar, a quiet chill-out zone, and a kids' area. The week leading up to the main event includes the Memorial Drag Ball Game at Vic West Park and Pride in the Word at the Victoria Conference Centre. The route is short and walkable from downtown hotels.
Attendance numbers are fuzzy. The society’s own figures swing from 40,000 parade spectators on its About page to over 80,000 expected in its 2026 promotion. No independent count exists. The 2026 parade and festival took place on Sunday, 12 July 2026, with up to 140 parade entries. The 2027 dates hadn’t been announced when we checked.
