Victoria Pride
About This Event
Victoria Pride is Vancouver Island's main Pride, run by the volunteer Victoria Pride Society. Its centrepiece is a Sunday in early to mid July: a parade through downtown in the morning, then a free festival at MacDonald Park in James Bay. It began small. The society says the first parade, on 25 June 1994, had a permit that only allowed marchers on the sidewalk.
The parade starts around 11am near Johnson and Government streets and takes about 90 minutes to reach the park. The festival runs into the early evening with 130-plus vendors, a food court, a regular bar and a sober bar, a quiet chill-out zone and a kids' area. Pride Week before it includes the Memorial Drag Ball Game at Vic West Park and Pride in the Word at the Victoria Conference Centre. The parade route is short and walkable from downtown hotels.
On attendance, the society's own figures range from 40,000 parade spectators on its About page to more than 80,000 expected in its 2026 promotion; nobody has published an independent count. The 2026 parade and festival were on Sunday 12 July 2026, with up to 140 parade entries. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
