Nice hotel in good location

Beautiful, on the very high end scale, elegant, valet parking only.perfect location to the u of m hospital

The hotel is hosting a party on the 2nd floor and the sound proofing is terrible. I'm two floors up from that and the music is coming through so loud and clearly that I could dance to it. Only, I'm trying to sleep, not dance. So, I guess I'm awake for the next hour until the party stops. It's a shame since apart from this, the hotel seems very nice. Unfortunately, laying awake at 10:30pm with the base thumping through the floor is a pretty big negative. There are other options in town, I'd recommend checking them out first. If you do have to stay here, make sure you're on one of the higher floors

Had a wonderful experience staying here. The food was delicious and the staff went above and beyond, especially Emily at the front desk. If we're ever needing to stay in Ann Arbor again we'll definitely book here!

Probably one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at- definitely in the top 20 of all time. It's brand new, less than 10 months old and it's one of the Marriott autograph collection properties. We were upgraded to the dual King suite which has tons of room, great views, and every amenity you can think of. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! Location is excellent and near main campus. If you need to get to North campus it's about a 10 minute drive.

Great hotel and experience. The management here is insanely great at their job and accommodation for guest. The best hotel in state of Michigan and beyond. Rooms are stunning and the effort they put into this hotel is above any place else you’ll find. I can’t recommend it enough. Any chance I get to stay here I will and I will always recommend it to anyone I meet asking for place to stay while in town. Great job everyone

The hotel is very nice. My wife and I travel to AA frequently to see our son and his family. There isn't enough room for us to stay at his place so we get a hotel room. My wife is recovering from cancer treatments so having a quiet place is helpful for her. As it was our anniversary I decided to book the weekend at the Vanguard. I was in a hurry to check in because we were going to go out for dinner. No one at the front desk explained what the destination fee included. No one mentioned the Welcome Gift. On Saturday morning I asked the front desk staff but they didn't provide a clear explanation. I could ride a bike (it was raining.) or I can get WiFi. The free WiFi was satisfactory. It would have been nice to know about free transportation. Twice when I requested my car the valets didn't know about it until I asked them and they checked their phone then they went to retrieve it. When we checked out I asked at the desk about the Welcome Gift. The clerk had a hard time explaining she but handed us a couple of candy bars. She said next time we check in to ask about it. I would think it is the job of the front desk to inform the guests not the other way around. We did get extra towels when we asked. She made the bed and took the trash. That was appreciated. I saw an old pass key laying on the ground when we checked into the room. It was there when we left. We enjoyed the hotel but were a little disappointed.

MODIFIED: My initial concerns were that this is a “nice hotel” but not "luxury". There were some immediate things that happened that turned us off to the trip, and things were down hill from there. After speaking w manager, Alexandria, she let me know they were aware of and already discussing changes to several of the concerns: presentation of the room service from restaurant, cleanliness, and ways they could go above and beyond to achieve the "luxury" status they're looking for. I hope they can incorporate more local flares and add higher end amenities. One note on room, we found it odd to find only 1 robe/pair of slippers provided for 2 guests. No extra blankets in the closet. Just sheets and a thin fleece on each bed. The main issue was that we checked out early due to whatever event was happening below our floor. We found the bass noise from the DJ/band VERY disruptive. They offered a higher room, but if we were going to pack up, we might as well pack the car and leave, which we did. We were not charged the second night. We found the restaurant to be a big issue. $75 for an entree, soup and salad. Room service did not come on cart w/ table, or real plates or silverware. Came in a bag with bamboo cutlery, & plastic containers that melted together. It's good to hear the hotel is working on something more impressive. Restaurant opened 15 minutes late for breakfast, while waiting I noticed lobby was a little unkempt. Coffee offered in morning, but otherwise no refreshments or offerings in lobby. Two bottles of Evian offered in room plus more at request. Location isn't great; while they can’t help it, it's worth mentioning. Situated on a very loud corner. On the third floor ‘city view’ is of parking structure. Surrounded by construction, and in the heart of frat row. Gym was a positive. Wasn’t too busy on a wknd morning. Plenty of cardio machines- treadmills, elliptical, and a row machine. A Cable machine, dumbbells, Swiss and med balls, kettles, and 2 benches. Pet friendly, but no pet offerings. Other ‘luxury’ hotels or Air BnBs offer treats, bowls, etc. $150 fee was high, considering, so it was nice to speak with Alexandria and hear this is a priority for them. This hotel has a ways to go to be luxury, but they are newer and are working on it, they are already behind the game with lack of spa, pool/whirlpool, and no additional services. No comment on housekeeping as we didn’t use it.

Stayed here for a quick 3-night trip while visiting nearby family at UM and overall it was a solid experience with a few notable highs and one clear drawback. The standout feature of this hotel is unquestionably the staff. Nick, Ethan, and Elizabeth at the front desk were excellent—efficient, genuinely friendly, and consistently attentive. Every interaction felt seamless and welcoming, which set the tone for the stay. We also dined at the on-site restaurant multiple times, and the food did not disappoint. The horseradish salmon is absolutely worth ordering—well-executed and flavorful. Service in the restaurant was just as strong as the front desk. Alyssa, Josh, and Logan were all fantastic—hospitable, knowledgeable about the menu, and thoughtful in their approach. It made dining there an easy choice more than once. The only real downside—and it’s a noticeable one—is the complete lack of vending machines or any grab-and-go options. For a hotel of this caliber, that’s an inconvenient miss, especially for quick snacks or late-night needs. That said, the quality of service across the board really carries the experience. All things considered, I would stay here again.
