Austin Pride

Austin Pride has two parts: a daytime festival at Fiesta Gardens in East Austin and a downtown parade that starts at 8 p.m. The Austin Pride Foundation runs it with the City of Austin. The foundation is a volunteer nonprofit set up in 2010.

Austin holds Pride in August, not June. In 2019 the foundation's president gave KXAN three reasons. August has fewer competing events, which brings bigger crowds and bigger acts to an event that costs over $100,000 to stage. It is drier than June, so rain insurance costs less. And the college students who make up much of the volunteer crew are back on campus by then.

The 2026 edition was on Saturday 22 August. It was the 36th parade, and the theme was "Viva la Resistencia". The route started at 11th Street and San Jacinto Boulevard, ran west on 11th, then south down Congress Avenue to the Ann Richards Bridge at Cesar Chavez Street. In 2025 the parade was on 23 August with the theme "Silence = Death". Crowd figures are soft: the City of Austin's 2025 release cited more than 400,000 attendees in previous years, but we found no independent count. The parade is at night in late-August Texas heat, and the city tells people to carry water. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
