South Street Diner

Loved this diner 25 years ago, but it's now a mere shadow of it's former self. Atmosphere is depressing, as it's vintage charm has faded into little more than a run down dump. Even my coffee mug had more chips in it than I could count, and the diner logo was completely worn away. Food was mediocre, at best, but the service was excellent...no complaints there. Hole in the wall joints can be hidden gems, especially if a nostalgic history is attached. Unfortunately, South Street Diner is no hidden gem, in spite of its iconic reputation.

Visiting from the UK and seeing online about this vintage diner made it a place we wanted to visit. We weren't disappointed, hosts were lovely and accommodating. The food was A1, a huge serving of pancakes and the turkey club was delicious. The atmosphere in this diner added to the great meal. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Visited here with my husband for breakfast and it was excellent. He had steak and eggs while I opted for the crab cake eggs benedict which were super flavourful, fresh and tasty. Service was quick and the diner had a lovely atmosphere.

We are on holiday in Boston from the UK and can't even say how excited we were to try a proper American diner! We decided on South Street diner and are so glad we did! Terry served us and he was just incredible. He had great energy and was genuinely so happy to see us enjoying our time there. He recommended the maple chicken Benedict which was honestly incredible. It's so refreshing to meet such lovely people who want to give you the best experience and who clearly love what they do. Thank you Terry! You really made our evening. 10/10 for South Street diner! If we were here for longer we would 100% return. Great food, great atmosphere, great people.

My grandfather used to eat here when he was in college and it was all he could afford. We still eat here on a regular basis because it reminds us of him, but also because it’s a great old school diner, and one of the few places in Boston where you can get served food 24/7. I strongly recommend getting breakfast, a burger, or a coffee frappe. Any of the eggs Benedict varieties are excellent.

This is a traditional little diner and whilst it isn’t the best looking on the inside it has tons of character! Needs a bit of a deep clean but otherwise the food was great and so was the coffee.

Great food,staff and atmosphere! Staff were exceptional and you felt like you were in their kitchen at home. If you get the opportunity stop by it’s great!

An authentic American diner with great food. Very generous portions which we could have shared! Obviously popular with the locals and there was a queue to get in when we left. Service was super quick.

Looking for somewhere local to eat on our first night in the City we found the South Street Diner as we knew it had a good reputation. Initially we were a little unsure as we entered and the diner was empty of customers and staff but someone appeared and seated us. The food was as we would expect from a classic American Diner. We had cheeseburgers and quesadillas which were tasty and plentiful. The burgers were huge and I only just ate all of mine and I have a large appetite!!!!. The diner soon filled up and was full by the time we left.

This is the diner all other greasy spoons should be judged by. You can see young Matt Damon and Ben Affleck there in your mind, caffeine jitteringly talking about film scripts. Honestly, the chili and cornbread was the best diner chili I’ve ever eaten. But our server is what I’ll remember most. I was dining with my friend and her little daughter. Server said to my friend: “Is this your daughter?” Indicating she was mine too. My friend said “her dad’s I back home. I’m with my gay husband this trip.” Server: “I get it, my husband is outta town so I’m seeing my boyfriend tonight. More coffee?” I mean, thanks for putting on a show, South Street Diner Boston.
