The Fairfield Inn & Suites at 216 East Ontario Street is a decent enough launchpad for Chicago, especially if you plan to spend most of your time on Michigan Avenue.
You’re not going to get a lot of character here, but you will get a Marriott property that’s reliably clean and well-run. It's a quiet little corner, just a block or two from the Magnificent Mile, so you can stumble back with your shopping bags without too much fuss.
They market themselves as LGBTQ+ friendly, and while that’s a nice thing to hear, it mostly means you can expect the standard, professional service you’d get from any Marriott. Nothing wrong with that. The rates are usually pretty reasonable for downtown, and they throw in free breakfast, which saves you a few bucks on coffee and pastries.
It’s a practical hotel, not a flashy one. If you’re in Chicago for shopping, or a conference, or just to hit the bars in Boystown (which are a quick taxi ride away), this spot gets the job done without breaking the bank.

Best location in Downtown Chicago.
Clean, great location and nice staff.
Excellent location!
Breakfast included. Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean.
Convenient location within walking distance to shopping on Michigan Ave, restaurants, the riverwalk and the lake. The room was clean and the free breakfast offered lots of options. The staff was very friendly and accommodated all our needs and requests! Would recommend. :)
Staff was rude the entire two days I stayed here. Beds were not queen size as stated and extremely uncomfortable. They took forever to pull my car from valet and they damaged my vehicle. When I confronted them about the damage they denied it and gave me the managers number. Please save your money and stay somewhere that doesn’t make you feel like an inconvenience for using the service you paid for.
