About this place Avenue Hotel Chicago

This listing covers the hotel at 160 East Huron Street, a block east of Michigan Avenue in the Streeterville area. It is a mainstream, gay-friendly property. Older listings call it The Avenue, a Crowne Plaza, but the website on file now points to a Hampton Inn at the Magnificent Mile, so the branding has likely changed. The location is useful: the Magnificent Mile shops are around the corner, and Boystown is a quick ride north on the Red Line or the 36 bus. Confirm the current name and brand before you book.

Don’t do it, folks. This place is not worth the cheap nightly rate. The bedrooms in the apartment are dirty with scuffed and gouged walls. The bedroom I was in faces the street so there is constant, extremely loud street noise. No AC, the lock on the bedroom door is incredibly flimsy. I didn’t stay long enough to see if the shared bathroom was acceptable. Find a real hotel!

Clean, decently organized, small rooms but comfy beds, location is a bit sketchy but in five days I've never had an issue, I would recommend the proprietors install more hooks for doors, more hangers for closets

Refund only processed after chargeback – disappointing experience I booked a stay at this property via Hostelworld and paid a deposit upfront. According to the booking conditions, the remaining balance was supposed to be paid at the property upon arrival. However, the hotel charged the full amount to my credit card shortly after the booking. Due to a change of plans, I cancelled my reservation well within the free cancellation period. While the initial deposit was refunded quickly, the remaining amount was not returned. Over the course of several weeks, I contacted the property multiple times and was repeatedly told that the issue was being reviewed by their accounting department. Despite these assurances, no refund was processed. Only after initiating a chargeback through my bank was the matter ultimately resolved and the funds returned. While the refund was eventually completed, the process was unnecessarily lengthy and required significant effort on my side. Based on this experience, I would recommend exercising caution when it comes to payment and refund handling at this property.
