About this place Palmer House Hilton

Palmer House is one of America's most storied hotels, on East Monroe Street in Chicago's downtown Loop. It's one of the oldest continuously operating hotels in the country, a landmark property that mixes old-school elegance with modern hospitality.

The hotel's long history—it's hosted every U.S. president since Grant—shows how important it's been, a place for distinguished travelers for a long time.

Chicago has plenty of hotels for LGBTQ+ travelers, from fancy places to smaller, boutique spots. The Palmer House is for guests who want classic, upscale lodging, with its famous architecture and all the amenities you'd expect. Since it's a major Hilton property, you'll get professional service, comfortable rooms, and on-site dining, just like other hotels in its category.

If you're in Chicago for fun, work, or to check out the city's LGBTQ+ neighborhoods and cultural sights, this downtown spot is convenient for getting around, eating, and entertainment. The hotel's history and central location make it a familiar pick for travelers who know its past. Palmer House Hotel, once the world's largest hotel with 1,640 rooms and over 150 years of history, is a gateway to history through an opulent Renaissance vision. The rooms have been updated to provide a great experience for guests and are comfortable. The hotel dazzles with its opulence, which contrasts with its speakeasy atmosphere. A lovely experience.

Other than the room being haunted, and a total of 5 hours sleep over two nights there. The Staff was exceptional at making right.

Great spot in town and the hotel is ran efficiently. I never had to go to the front desk with questions, I’d be getting texts along my stay asking if I need anything which was super convenient

Posting a special shout out to Alec at the front desk who was beyond customer service oriented while supporting me with a travel delay and stay adjustment. People like Alec are why I am loyal to Hilton. I appreciate you so very very much.

Was here for a gala and was told to go to their bellhop for storing my work bag. The bellhop made me pay him a $5 tip or he wouldn’t take my bag. It’s his job and he did not want to do it. The fact that he forced me to do it despite it not being required is absolutely disgusting. Do not host your events here. I’m sure it’s just as awful to be a hotel guest.

Wow, this place is in MASSIVE need of an update. The lobby is of course gorgeous. But the it's also incredibly loud and busy and the restaurant/food offerings aren't that great. But the rooms! Dingy, peeling wallpaper, stains, furniture is all dinged up. And the bathrooms were a living nightmare. The shower insert was so cheap and I don't think installed properly. Every time you stepped on a spot it would make the loudest noise and indent. And the ceiling right above where you shower had a huge crack and peeling plaster. It honestly seemed like the ceiling might collapse. And when you would step on whatever that messed up spot was, you felt you might fall thru the ceiling. It also got water everywhere, even with the shower curtain properly in place. And you could tell they just slapped peel and stick wallpaper (very tacky design too, they obviously took no thought on the marble and finishings when slapping it up). I used to stay here when I was younger and I honestly don't think it's been updated since 2008. Such a disappointment! Especially with such a beautiful lobby. But honestly most Hiltons anymore are subpar at best (yet they charge like they still good!) So many better hotels if you have to stay in this area of Chicago!
